Knowing I was going to have a busy day today, I was sure to get to the office earlier than normal so to be all the more prepared for the hours ahead. There were emails piling up that needed to be answered, research to be done, and other miscellaneous chores outside the office. When you find yourself at the office so early, that it's still dark … continue reading

The White Men
After the intermittent rain showers we received most of the day, it's looking to be a very pleasant rest of this summer's evening. Thank goodness the wind changed to the north with its cool and drying air. Living in the flatlands, allows for us to experience all the more, those cooling winds from the north. In spite of having to endure rare sto … continue reading

Wicked Storm
The prime topic of conversation all over North Iowa has been the amount of damage done by falling trees and branches from yesterday's storm, and not to mention all the pieces of siding, roofing, and patio furniture peeled off, picked up, and strewn about. When I went to the Globe Gazette online this morning, I was shocked to find how severe it wa … continue reading

I Hate Being Right
What a memorable 28th Day of May it will be for a very many years. The meteorologist said it was supposed to be cooler than yesterday, but my thermometer topped out at 106 degrees. I knew early this morning it was going to be another scorcher because while outside at 7:30 am doing some yard clean-up, it was already starting to get hot. When I … continue reading

A Hundred and One
It was another one of those days where I felt as though I were in a state of perpetual motion from the time I left home. About a week ago, I agreed to help a dear friend who was in need of an extra pair of arms and legs, and this morning was when I was to be there. He was already hard at it when I arrived, so without time to chat, I dug right i … continue reading

Mason City’s Milwaukee Depot
There's no question I can honestly say that today was one where I was on my feet for well over eight hours. If only I'd worn a more comfortable pair of shoes because by the time I arrived home, my feet were on fire, and likely so when glancing at the thermometer and finding it to be 106 degrees outside. We've certainly had our record breakers t … continue reading

The Carnival’s in Town
Once mid-morning arrived, I found most of our public more focused on our three day weekend that's coming up, rather than paying attention to the present. One example was a young woman backing out of a driveway she was turning around in and not even noticing I was almost right there with my car, along with it being too narrow of a street for me to … continue reading

Squirrel Chambers
Are you all bracing yourselves for the 90+ degree temperatures that are supposed to be hovering over us this weekend? If the wind continues blowing, I don't think it'll be so bad, but if it's calm, the humidity's going to be high and we will be suffering all the more. If you're going to be out in that sun and heat during Band Festival, make sur … continue reading

Shelter Number 1
I was surprised to find it raining this morning. I certainly feel sorry for those who live in low-lying areas. The ground is still very saturated in those areas to where I'm sure the farmers are having issues trying to get their planting done. Someone just told me today they nearly got their tractor stuck in a low spot on their farm.
One o … continue reading

The Big Culprits
It was absolutely beautiful out today with the sun shining and the temps hovering around the 70+ degree mark. While being outdoors during a number of appointments, I was keen to enjoy it fully. Having had so many late snows, it seems as though it was yesterday when we were getting those nasty snowstorms. I'm still sad over there being no baby … continue reading
