We had a little drizzling rain this morning, but at least the cloud cover cleared off by the time Noon arrived, which came as a relief because we’ve definitely had our fair share of rain this week, so hopefully we’ll have clear skies the coming days.
I had several in-office appointments which didn’t last long and since I had pretty much all my desk work completed, I decided to change into my work clothes and get some more useless ‘stuff’ hauled out to the landfill. Fortunately I’ve been staying on track with the promise I made to myself at the beginning of the year, which was to get as much either given or hauled away. Now that I can definitely see the progress made, I’m all the more juiced to get more done.
The Realtor that showed my new listing at 1551 N. Rhode Island, sent a text message to me saying the showing went well but there were other homes the buyers were scheduled to view, so hopefully it’ll remain in the running. There’s no question that home is one of the best built I’ve seen in some time.
My trip to the landfill was a quick one, and luckily there weren’t that many people out there which created a quick trip out and back. Of course the traffic between Clear Lake and Mason City was remarkably heavy, and likely because we’re fast approaching the 4th of July. The road construction that’s been ongoing along Hwy 122, makes for even more bottlenecking.
Thinking I was going to have a relatively free day tomorrow, I received a call late this afternoon from an out of town buyer who wants to see several of my commercial listing beginning around mid-morning, so I’ll be busy with real estate for a good half of the day. With the increased interest in those commercial buildings, I’m staying hopeful they’ll start selling. I’m of the belief that if at least one of them gets sold, the others will soon follow.
Since I had a few groceries to pick up, I stopped at Hy-Vee on my way home, and to my surprise, I happened to run into one of my old clients who mentioned she’ll be back in the market for something different. It’s not that she doesn’t like where she lives because she does, but she’s entering the stage of her life where she wants more peace and quiet, so I’ll be on the hunt for a roomy 2 bedroom 2 bath home for her in an area where the houses aren’t so tightly arranged. Gosh it was good seeing her, and I swear she hasn’t aged a day since I’d last seen her.
For whatever reason, I felt like watching a movie last night, so I went searching for something of interest and for whatever reason, I decided to watch ‘Trial by Fire’ which happens to be a biographical drama film that centers around a 1991 arson case against Cameron Todd Willingham and the State of Texas. Of course not having heard anything about it at the time, that whole film was completely new to me, and after seeing how it actually ended, had me completely awake for about an hour before I was finally able to fall asleep.
What really upset me about that true story, was seeing once again how corrupt our justice system can be, and especially to the point where an innocent man was put to death. From what I later read, that case is still in the Texas courts. After seeing how his charges were manipulated by the State’s lawyers and officers, gave me all the more reason for not wanting have a home in Texas. My gosh! How can a State’s governor come right out and be proud over the number of people they’ve put to death? Oh well, I sure managed to get stirred up over it last night, but I’m pretty much settled down now. With that said, I would advise all of you to take the time to watch that film based on a true story because it’ll definitely make you aware of what goes on in our court system. I’d share more thoughts about it, but I think it best you draw your own conclusions.
