My goodness! What an about-face we had with our weather today. By mid-afternoon it was showing our outdoor temperature at a whopping 68 degrees. It’s quite amazing how after global warming kicked in, we’ve been getting more intense storms and radical swings in our temps. Of course we all know that when temps swing so quickly, there’s always a nasty storm on its heels.
Upon arrival at office, I promptly went back to my quiet contemplative corner and got my Sunday morning session completed. Over-all, it was another good experience, with the exception of my having ‘seen’ that annoying entity at a distance, but fortunately I was able to drive it back out of my sacred space. I can say, it’s been a persistent evil monkey, but as long as keep my guard up, I shouldn’t have any real problem with it going forward.
I later checked my email and happened to notice a message from my dear friend who’d suggested I read Sayles’ letter to the editor in our Globe Gazette, so I got online and read it. After a good read, all I can say, he’s definitely removed all his filters, and especially concerning David Rachie who’s a reincarnation of “The Music Man’s” con man, Harold Hill who was hell-bent on ripping off the citizens of River City. Isn’t it interesting how the Music Man Square is involved in Rachie’s scheme to milk our City of millions?
One thing I did not appreciate about Mr. Sayles article, was him naming my brother’s holding on to vacant buildings in our City, but not one mention of all the other vacant buildings and houses which are owned by all the many others. For whatever reason, he’s got my brother in his crosshairs again. All I can think of, is he used his name because he’s not living here to defend himself.
Another thing Sayles mentioned which I did not know, is the Mohawk Square having been sold for $1.00, so yours truly had to go crawling down another rabbit hole to gather a little bit more information about the new owner. First of all, the Determan family didn’t sell the parking lots across the street, so the only thing the new buyer got, was the building and what little front and side yard it has.
Well, I dug deep enough later today, and found that the new owner is Anthony Lynn Allos, who has a mailing address according to our City records, in the town of Roway California, which I knew had to be a mistake, and indeed it was, because his address is in Poway California which is a suburb of San Diego.
What I found the most interesting, is Anthony Lynn Allos who’s somewhere around 78 or 79 years old, likely grew up in Mason City, and the reason I say this, is the fact there being a long-vacant brick home located at 633 – 3rd St. NE which I’m familiar with because I sent a letter to the forwarding address in Poway about a year ago, inquiring about possibly listing it. Of course while connecting the dots today, I discovered, at least one of the current titleholders to 633 – 3rd NE has been deceased since 2003. With that said, I would surmise Anthony Lynn Allos is the son of the decedent, and for whatever reason, I believe Scott Shipman who’s the head of North Iowa Community Credit Union, has some long-time connection with the Allos family. The only reason I’m mentioning Shipman’s name, was someone having told me that a number of years ago, so if I’m wrong, the person who told me, didn’t know what he was talking about.
I can’t imagine what Mr. Allos is planning on doing with the Mohawk Square, but perhaps he has some nostalgic tie to it since he mostly likely graduated from that High School. It’ll be interesting to find out what his intentions are. I give him credit for taking on such a daunting project at his age. Perhaps he’s partnering with someome who lives here, just like Dr. Lala’s partnering with Mr. Challis who grew up here, but now lives in California. Boy those California people sure have been spending some coin here in our City this past decade.
For several mornings, I’ve been noticing something over at that ticky-tacky apartment complex called ‘The River’, and since I’d been arriving at office before dawn, I usually take a shorter route which takes me around that southern bend. Well, at least three times now, I’ve noticed how a number of those exterior panels, no longer appearing to be completely flat and tight against the walls, and only because I can see it when the street lights are shining on them. The first time I noticed it, I thought I was just seeing things, but the second time, I purposely looked, and those ever-so-slight bumps are there. It’s funny when remembering my dear friend having shared with me some nasty reviews on Mason City’s ‘Rant and Rave’ from a number of existing and previous tenants. I’ve personally never been in that apartment complex, but if I ever have a chance, I’ll have to give it a good looking-over.
My organ playing over at St. Paul Lutheran went quite well, but unfortunately I was informed early this morning, they’ve decided to have me play their piano because of the issues their organ has. I’ll follow their instructions, but at least I’ll be able to play preludes and postludes on it. I still don’t know why that organ technician can’t go ahead and fix that faulty B flat pedal, and just leave the rest of it alone. It sounds like I’ll be accompanying one of their members who’ll be playing the clarinet. That’ll be very nice.
Our practicing session over at First Congregational Church, also went well, so I’ll soon be set for playing their organ on Easter Sunday, along with accompanying some timid voices while they’re singing that jazzy rendition of ‘The Strife Is O’er’. Once again I mentioned how beautiful their church is, along with my having fallen for their organ.
Tonight’s One-liner is: Hatred is a settled-in anger.
