It was an up, out and at em for me this morning due to my having early appointments to prepare for, as well as readying myself for my public open house this afternoon. While on my way to work, it appeared we received a measurable amount of rain last night, which will help to keep everything green a-growing.
My first appointment out of office, wa … continue reading

Old-growth Weeds
It was quite the relief to have the cloud cover and cooler temps arrive, along with being accompanied by a light rain. I'm sure all of our farmers were delighted to see it raining even the slightest. That strange smoky-looking haze we had last evening, had the looks of high humidity, but I swear it had the slightest smell of smoke. I wouldn't be su … continue reading

Exposed to the Sap
I wasn't expecting it to be as hot outside as it was today, but it managed to arrive one more day to torment us a little more. With the way in which we acclimate ourselves, I won't be surprised if we feel a bit chilled when it gets back down in the 70's.
For the most part, it was an all-around quiet Thursday which afforded me time get some accou … continue reading

Tell-tale-tit!
Another blistering day arrived in North Iowa, and to make matters worse, we got just enough rain to get the pavement wet, which meant our humidity level was going to be even higher. When I looked at the marquis at our downtown bank, it read 98 degrees, but just wondering if that was the "shade" temperature.
I received a call today from one of th … continue reading

A Good Dose
When knowing it was going to be a hot one today, I made sure to get as many of my out of office chores taken care of before the blistering sun was high in the sky. Having awakened earlier than normally, I went out and gave my vegetable garden a good soaking, just so those pepper and tomato plants wouldn't be suffering from the heat.
After arrivi … continue reading

The Gen Z’s
It looks like we're going to be baking these next three days, and today being the first which was not to my liking because the wind started blowing from the south which felt like someone had just opened an oven door. I can only imagine what it's going to be like when Wednesday arrives and we're above 100 degrees. Someone mentioned this morning that … continue reading

Pounding Humility
Another hot one arrived today, but at least we had a slight breeze out of the North which when not in the direct sun, made a person feel like it was ten or fifteen degrees cooler. I'm still not looking forward to this week's daily 90+ degree temps.
Before heading to work, I drove over to that home missing a set of door knobs on a closet, just so … continue reading

Hill of Cucumbers
For the strangest of reasons, not long after crawling out of bed this morning, I had to keep reminding myself from time to time that it's Saturday instead of Sunday. Just as I was pulling up to my office this morning, it started raining lightly, which I thought to be terribly odd since our weather forecasters were saying we wouldn't be seeing any r … continue reading

Re-visiting 207 N. Hampshire
With an early appointment on my calendar, I hurried to office to get myself prepared for it. While on my way, I paid special attention to the condition of various yards I could see while driving. I know I've mentioned it before, but again I just can't believe how lazy some people are growing when looking at the many un-tended landscapes in our City … continue reading

Cut Myself Loose
Another hot and humid day came and went, and unfortunately I was out in it more than not. I'm not complaining much because a mere six months from now, we'll be knee-deep in the dead of winter and doing everything we can to stay warm and safe from those normally bitter-cold January days.
My first appointment, was to go over to 114 - 11th St. NE a … continue reading
