Identity Fusion

Very early this morning, I finally discovered the reason why I was awakened a number of times in the night, and likely because there was another rainstorm brewing, and as we all know, before a given storm arrives, the air becomes more dense. For whatever reason, I had no idea there was rain predicted for today, but at least I now know why my sleep time was interrupted.

It was a relatively busy Thursday with having to meet with the sellers of a listing I have, to go over an offer which was emailed to me late last night. After much discussion, the sellers agreed to accept it, but I had to make one change to the purchase agreement and send it back to the buyer’s agent, and about an hour or so later, I received another agreeable change which I had to go back out and get initialed by the sellers. I’m very happy and thankful we were able to get that home under contract because the sellers have already established a relocation timeline. Before leaving, we did have a nice chat over the happenings in our youth which helped to build our characters.

I expanded my thoughts a little bit when sharing my hardened belief that many parents in these times, have unknowingly raised their young to be far more dependent on the skills and work ethics of others, rather than their parents taking the time to start teaching them at an early age. Yes, there’s more discipline involved, but in the end, those young adults are far better prepared for the outside world. When you stop to think about it, I’m sure most of you know a very many parents who’ve enabled their children, rather than instilling responsibilities in them from the get go. In spite of all the work I was called to do in my formative years, I never once was given any sort of monetary reward or allowance. I will never in my life be able to understand the reasoning parents have for giving their children allowances.

One of my clients stopped by my office this afternoon to have me review some real estate documents that were sent to her, and after I gave them all a good looking-over and then explaining the content in a layman’s terms, she was all the more relieved, but we did spend a little extra time visiting about the olden days. Since she and I went to the same school and knew many of the students, we had some good chuckles over some who to this day, are about as annoying as listening to a long-clawed cat scratching on a chalkboard. Truth be told, every time we’ve had our filterless chats, I have this comforting feeling when knowing I’m not alone when speaking about the flawed characters of others. No, I’m not perfect and nobody else is, but at least I do work at correcting my flaws. I just about fell off my chair when she showed me a recent photo of a teacher in that school who’s now 104 years old, and believe me, she didn’t look a day over eighty. My gosh! She must’ve come from a very good ‘longevity’ gene pool.

With some time to kill, I jumped in my car and headed out to do some checking up on vacant homes and buildings I have listed, and thank goodness all was well except my having found another Realtor had neglected to lock the garage door on one of my listings, and thank goodness I discovered it because my seller has some personal items stored there. Most of us know that leaving a garage door unlocked is an invitation for thieves. There are times when I feel like I’m a kindergarten moderator.

I did have a little time to catch up on all the real news feeds, and happened upon one which talked about identity fusion which has been around for quite some time, and what I always liken it to, is the way in which some people go absolutely crazy over certain football clubs to where they wear their hats, freely wear their jerseys, buy all those decals they place in the windows of their vehicles, and the list goes on.

Well, in these times, we have an identity fusion going on with the MAGA group which is even more intense than the football clubs, and only because the things taking place in our society are not part of a football game where there are rules which must be followed, and believe me, there haven’t been very many rules that haven’t been broken lately. Yes, I may be old fashioned, but what really gets me, is the lack of decorum in our government bodies. Today’s article also reminded me that cults are magnets for scared, lonely, isolated and downtrodden souls who’re desperately looking to become a part of something. I’m glad to be a dinosaur of sorts in these times, because simply don’t walk way from such groups, but rather run in the opposite direction, and likely because I’ve worked very hard over the years to know and appreciate myself.

Tonight’s One-liner is: He was distinguished for ignorance; for he had only one idea, and that was wrong.
