It was definitely a more tolerable day with our temps not being off the charts, which I believe caused the general public here in North Iowa, to be less crabby and more delightful.
My early scheduled appointment was to meet with two exceptionally loyal and faithful clients who were needing some legal documents notarized, so once all that completed, we sat and had a nice chat which ended up being quite the session of sharing information about the goings on in our community.
I wasn’t surprised to hear where some of the staff at Mason City Clinic were quitting their jobs because of their buyout by Trinity Health Care which owns Mercy Hospital. From the sounds of it, there are a large number of them who’re not the least bit happy about that buyout. From the sounds of it, all the more people are opting to get their medical needs taken care of by Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion, or heading to Mayo Clinic, and mostly because there’s not that many full-time doctors now on staff at Mercy. I did learn a new slang word last year when assisting an exceptionally ungrateful person with a serious health issue, for doctors who travel around to various hospitals and clinics which is ‘locum’, and believe me, there are a growing number of them in our city’s medical community. I actually asked a doctor last year if he was a ‘locum’, who didn’t give me a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, which meant he was one. Yes, that was quite the information sharing/gathering session. Gosh, they really are good people.
One of today’s meetings was with the sellers of a home that’s coming up to close, so I had them come to my office to get the transfer documents signed and notarized, just so they wouldn’t have to spend any more time than needed at a particular closing company that’s not exactly high on my list, and only because in my mind, they seem to wait until the last dog is dead before they forward me docs which need to be reviewed and approved before we close. Oh well, it’s just one more example of how far too many professionals and semi’s, aren’t as diligent as they used to be in getting their work done.
Before they left, I made sure to praise as well as congratulate one of the sellers for all the pro-bono work he does for our community which has gone unnoticed by many, which is why I soulfully told him how much he’s appreciated in spite of likely not getting thanked on a regular basis.
I couldn’t help bringing up a bet I’ve placed with myself regarding my having offered to freely and willingly play a particular pipe organ at a given church on a regular basis which is now rarely played. In spite of the pastor being of the mindset that it would be a good thing, my freewill offer will mostly likely get turned down by their Liturgy Committee, and only because a select few in that circle have dubbed me an apostate of sorts, so I’m likely going to win that bet I have with myself, and the winnings will end up being donated to a local charity. In the end, it’s not what’s said or goes unsaid, but rather those ‘feelings’ I get about such things which more often than not, end up getting confirmed. As I told my clients today, “It’s their loss and not mine.” I’m now wondering if I get brownie points with the ‘record keeper in the sky’ for simply offering. Hmm…I’ll have to think about that one.
We’ve got another showing scheduled for tomorrow over at 1551 N. Rhode Island which in my book, is one of the best-built and exceptionally well cared-for homes I’ve inspected in quite some time. Yes, we’ve had very positive comments coming from those who’ve looked at it, but no offers as of yet, so please say a little selfless prayer that it gets sold quickly.
I personally have a showing schedule for 416 N. Adams with some out of town buyers on Friday morning, who sent me a request earlier today. I’m certainly glad I took the initiative to get that yard mowed yesterday afternoon, along with giving the home another quick walk-thru. I’m convinced that’s another rare home that ‘picks’ its buyer rather than the buyers making the choice, and it usually happens with such homes that’ve been owned by the same family for decades on end.
With several hours to kill before heading home, I went back over to that unit and continued on with getting years of smoke washed off walls and ceilings which is definitely going to take more hours to get completed than even I was expecting, but it has to be done because if the bulk of it isn’t washed off with TSP, that smoke stain will bleed into a new coat of paint. Yeah, that guy must’ve never been given any instructions from his parents regarding personal hygiene, or he’s plain and simply lazier than a couch potato.
While doing some evening reading last night, I happened upon a short article regarding people who just won’t let past happenings go, and even though they know they can’t change the cause and effects of those episodes, they hold those angers and sometimes hatreds at the forefront of their minds, and believe me, I know far more of them than I care to admit. But, what really caused the wake-up bells to go off, was when the author of that clip bluntly stated, “Those who hang on to the past, have created their own hells on daily basis.” Now you’ve got to admit, he was spot-on because at this moment, a vile ‘reli’ of mine has come to mind, and believe me, that person has wasted more precious time of others with the near non-stop belly-aching over things that took place fifty or more years ago. Yes, some do enjoy pulling you down into their own private hells whenever opportunities arise.
Tonight’s One-liner is: Never apologize for showing feeling, because when you do so, you apologize for the truth.
