When knowing it was gonna get hot again today, I made sure to be prepared for another good workout which I had planned, but above all else, my Sunday morning spiritual duties became first and foremost. For a number of reasons, I’m definitely glad I’ve managed to hang onto my faith, because after reading a troubling article yesterday, it sounds like even more people are walking away from all forms of spirituality, and unfortunately they’ve found nothing to fill that void, which is all the more troubling. I continue to agree with my mother’s words, “If you have no faith, you have nothing.”, but if such people would take the time to search deeply within themselves, they’d find her words to be true.
Once I was mentally ready to attack today’s project, I grabbed a small coal shovel, a number of five gallon buckets, a pickaxe, a stiff broom, and headed to the back of my office to get a layer of gravel scraped off of a cement pad which had been covered up by various contractors who’d been hired by Alliant Energy several years ago, and given the job to bury all those power lines in the back alleys of our downtown. Of course there were enough mistakes made over those months which I don’t even want to ‘go there’ because it’s all water under the bridge.
What made matters worse, was one of the contractors having mis-judged elevation at the back of my office by pouring the alleyway at too high of a grade, and of course they then added more gravel on my parking lot to make it level in their eyes. Well, after much complaining on my part, they did end up putting the grade back to where it was supposed to be, but they didn’t get rid of all that extra gravel, which is why I went on the attack with it today. After having dug out and then filled 33 five gallon buckets with gravel which I hauled away to a spot that was needing it, I had to call it a day. Because I wasn’t watching the time, I suddenly realized I’d been working on and off with it for over eight hours, which was definitely more than enough time spent for one day. After giving today’s project a good looking over before walking away, I dare say I’ll be spending another five or six hours on it before it’s back to where it’s supposed to be. After it’s finished, it’ll be much easier for me to mow back there with all that extra gravel gone.
Before heading home, I got myself caught up on the news feeds, and for whatever reason, I just happened to come across a very interesting Facebook ‘reel‘ which was talking about these private school vouchers which many are up in arms about. Ok, I’m totally OK with the concept of those vouchers, but I’m certainly not OK with there being no oversight on how those funds are being used, because those dollars are yours and mine that are being spent. I’ve just now added link to that reel below, just so you can get a better understanding of it all, and wouldn’t you know, Newman High School here in Mason City is being used as an example. Wow! Mason City’s back in the news again! I sure hope Rob Sand ends up being our new governor because that young man has what it takes to run our State with the interests of our general public being placed ahead of his own. Having met with him some years ago, I couldn’t have been more impressed at the time. He’ll be a breath of fresh air after the years we’ve had to endure our current governor who’s never been able to see the forest for the trees, like so many others in these troubling times.
If our ultracrepidarian POTUS gets his ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ passed, I’ll be exceptionally fearful over that new debt ceiling attached to it, and if he thinks our country is going to become great over the many executive orders he’s signed, there’s gonna be a huge crude awakening taking place in our country, and it’ll all be in him and his unqualified circle of cronies. You can also be certain all his MAGA followers with their hard-coded belief perseverances, will certainly find someone else to blame other than themselves. Heaven help us all!
