I was up and out earlier this morning, just so I could get some mowing done before the temps began to rise, and since the sun was already up at half past five, I figured I just as well get cracking. I did manage to get everything completed about twenty minutes before my ten o’clock appoint, which afforded me time to get cleaned up and changed back into my street clothes.
With never having met the buyer before today, I was glad we hit it off from the get go, and likely because he’s very much like I am where I tell it like it is, and fortunately he’s got a whole lot of building experience under his belt which made it all the easier for him to see past what most buyers turn up their noses at and walk away.
After looking at all four of the buildings I had scheduled, I have this ‘feeling’ he’s already narrowed it down to two, and since he’s from out of town and planning on re-locating to our area, I’m hoping to get a call from him these coming days. Shortly after we met, I’d resigned myself that he was more than financially capable of purchasing one or two of those buildings, which was later confirmed when saying if he did decide to purchase, it would be a cash sale. I could tell he’s one of those people who’ll never set around waiting for God, but rather God having to chase him down. I always find it uplifting whenever seeing people over 55, barreling forward with new ventures. I dare say that’s likely what keeps them young. He did tell me his age which was a bit of a shocker, and my only response was, “I wouldn’t be sharing that with very many people because you’ll end up being pigeon-holed like everyone else.”
Thank goodness I went down to the plaza really early this morning, just to make sure everything was good at the front of 16 S. Federal. Well, I was definitely glad I did because there must’ve been some serious drinking going on at Lorado’s last night. My gosh! There were several open Corona beer bottles that were still half full of beer which were propped up against the building, along with a broken Budweiser bottle lying in the middle of the plaza, so I quickly disposed of what would’ve created a bad impression for my buyer. You would think the owner of that bar would’ve done a little checking out front at his seating area before closing up for the night. Now if I were a police officer watching last night’s crowd from afar, I wouldn’t doubt there would’ve been some arrests made, and especially if they’d decided to drive themselves home. As a footnote, that trash bin in the plaze which is near their building, was heaping full of empty beer bottles. Go figure!
The two Bergo buildings I showed also went well, and glad one of the Bergos was there to show us around, but since it was such a short notice, we weren’t able to get in to see the 2nd floor apartments, but at least we were given a good idea regarding their sizes. As I suspected, one of their buildings happens to have an elevator shaft which must’ve been in use during the golden age of Bergo’s. Truth be told, I was one of their regulars back when I was working at First National Bank which was only a half block away and yes, I still have fond memories of the owners at the time. Just think, if Southbridge Mall hadn’t been built, we’d still have a thriving downtown with many family owned businesses in buildings that are now nothing more than vague memories. Over all these years, I’ve never once had a warm and fuzzy feeling over Southbridge Mall. So there you have my unwavering opinion.
The remainder of my day was spent diligently working over at my soon to be completed project, and today’s hours were spent getting a lower room prepared for a much-needed update, and since everything else has been ‘touched by me’, I figure it best to run the full course, just so I’ll not have to look back after it’s finished. Knowing how daunting it was, I was happy to have it completely readied before I had to call it quits for this extra long day.
