Now if I hadn’t made a quick stop to check on a home before continuing on to my office this morning, I wouldn’t have been trapped in my vehicle for over a half hour while waiting for the this morning’s downpour to stop. With nothing better to do other than watching the rain pour down, I must say towards the end of it, there were wide streams of water running north on Federal Avenue, and creating a giant pond at the corner of 4th NE and N. Federal, and so much so, there were people coming from the north who were turning and going around it. It won’t surprise me if I should hear the large attorneys office at that very corner, had water seeping into their building. Yes, there was that much water.

Thank goodness the rain stopped before my mid-morning appointment to show houses arrived, and you can be sure every one of the homes I showed today, had a noticeable amount of water in their basements which ended up being a turn-off for my buyer. But on the positive side, I believe if all goes well with the sale of that buyer’s out of town home, I may have one of my own listings sold.

My back to back showings didn’t get completed until well after the hour of one, and shortly thereafter, I made a point to go and visit a past client, just to pass on some information he may need in the coming months. Whenever we get together, there’s always a good deal to talk about, and since he’s a very well-rounded chap, our conversations oft-times migrate onto some rarely discussed subjects, and today’s veering-off had to do with envisioning things that have not yet come to pass. Like I said, our visits can be a bit on the esoteric side.

One of my clients called to ask about the rules and regulations regarding fences, and by the time I stepped back down off my soapbox, I likely had him all the more confused, but at least he now understands that he can put up a standard chain-link fence within the perimeter of his property, as long as they’re allowed in his subdivision, which I know they are because he lives in one the old subs. I also encouraged him to have a survey done by a licensed surveyor if for any reason he’s not absolutely certain where his property lines are. I did give him the phone number of a reputable surveyor I’ve used in the past. Better to be safe than sorry. Right?

Once I had all my phone calls returned, I went ahead and set up a mid-morning appointment to show several commercial buildings tomorrow, and you can be sure I’ll be dressing as cool as possible after hearing how hot and humid these coming days are going to be. I’m keeping my fingers crossed in hopes they’ll like one of them.

When in conversation with one of my client’s associates, we somehow got on the subject of the German language, and delighted to hear that she’d taken two years of it in college, but unfortunately it wasn’t to her liking. Of course I had to mention that at one point in my early years, I was semi-proficient in the language, but not having kept up on it, I’d forgotten many of the nouns and verbs, but I still have a grasp of its word order, the conjugation of verbs, and above all, pronunciation. I couldn’t help adding the fact that once a person starts dreaming in a foreign language, they have a far better grasp of it than they likely realize. Yes, there was a time when I was dreaming in German which was quite interesting to say the least.

Since I’ll be re-visiting 11 Second St. NE tomorrow morning, I decided to post that old newspaper photo of it back when it was our City Hall. Many of the exterior components are still there, but keep in mind, that building was likely ‘re-skinned’ when our city purchased it back in 1924. I can already see in my mind what it would look like if all that stucco were scraped-off to expose those handsome brick walls. I never did like the looks of that stucco. It must’ve been the rage back in the 1920’s because there are a number of stucco bungalows in our city which were built during that time period.

Tonight’s One-liner is: One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship, is to understand and to be understood.
