Talking More Thank Listening

Considering our overcast skies and the intermittent sprinkles of rain we were getting, I thought for sure those participants in the Band Festival wouldn’t be doing their thing today, but as it grew closer to the time they had to start their serpentine journey, there didn’t seem to be anymore raindrops falling. Of course I had to take wide detours to get from one point to another several times, but at least I managed to keep myself occupied the entire morning. Oh, and yes I had some garbage to pick up around my office this morning including a spent bottle of really cheap whiskey, and after reviewing what had taken place at the rear of my office, I dare say there was some ‘man hunting’ going on with three young women who must’ve convinced themselves they’re beauty queens because the way they were dressed, would’ve made a seasoned sailor blush. I can still hear my mother saying at appropriate times, “Women can be just as bad as men, and if they’re in the wrong groups, they can even be worse.”

Being confined to my office all morning, I went ahead and submitted my new listing in Sheffield, did some tidying-up, and then got some long overdue practicing done on my piano, and since it was sounding like it was beginning to fall out of tune, I picked up the phone and called my favorite piano tuner and left a message for him to call me back and schedule and appointment to get my piano tuned.

Since I have a visiting ‘reli’ whom I still maintain contact with, I went ahead and pulled out a folder I’d created which contained some history on a particular branch of my family which dates back into the 1700’s, and after reviewing those pages, I went ahead and made a copy of the most important, and then took my highlighter and underlined the names of those who were part of the ‘straight down’ lineage, which I then placed in a manila folder and later hand delivered.

It had been some time since I looked at those copies, and after today, I’ll still remain ever-thankful to a now deceased cousin of my parents for being so kind to give them to me. Yes, I believe that meeting at the time ended up several days later, with a windfall of information being created which I would’ve never been able to collect on my own. What I liked the most about one of those documents, were some of the personal anecdotes put forward way back then by people who were more than four generations behind me. Yes, I passed along some really good stuff today.

The remainder of my afternoon was spent putzing around at my project where I’m now focusing on loose ends which always end up taking more time than one thinks, and likely because I sometimes encounter unexpected challenges. Wicked me took one photo of a component with my cellphone and sent it to my dear friend who always enjoys looking at structural works of art, just as a reminder of how overly-focused I can be at times.

While online this morning, I happened to find a short clip which offered up six clear signs of a stupid person and they are as follows:

1. With a stupid person, there’s a constant need to be right.
2. A stupid person always blames others for their own problems.
3. A stupid person does way more talking than listening.
4. Stupid people refuse to learn.
5. Stupid people exhibit overconfidence without substance.
6. A stupid person is always known to judge others quickly.

As I was entering each line, the faces of some really stupid people started coming to mind. Yes, they’re not only getting more stupid, but there now seems to be more of them. Yikes!

Tonight’s One-liner is: The stupid neither forgive nor forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive but do not forget.
