Downward Slide Into Chaos

I was glad to find another pleasant day having arrived, but of course the wind changed directions on us and started coming from the south. I think they modified those weather warnings for tomorrow to where we may not get hit with the brunt of that storm. Let’s hope.

With it being another Sunday, my first duty was to get my contemplative prayer session started, and to my wonder, it was one of the best I’ve had in many months, so hopefully it’ll continue on because after I finished up, I could tell it had an even deeper and more lasting effect on me the entire day.

Because I was still not fully comfortable with several of the pieces I was to play over at First Presbyterian Church later this morning, I sat down and ran thru them a few more times before I finally stopped and said to myself, “This is as good as it’s gonna get.”, and then went over to my computer and started reading all the various news feeds. I did forget to mention that this past week, Joe LaPointe’s obituary showed up in the news, which made me sad because we’d crossed paths a number of times with real estate transactions. Not until reading his obit, I never realized how highly educated he was, as well as having quite the sharp and long-term memory. I was a bit surprised they didn’t have a funeral scheduled for him because of how prominent of a citizen he was in our community. But, I’m sure many are already coming to realize that funerals, viewings, and gatherings afterwards, are becoming a thing of the past. Of course the costs of publishing obituaries in our Globe Gazette has become prohibitively high.

As much as I was filled with anxiety over playing at First Presbyterian Church, my fears were soon dismissed after the second hymn was played, and all the remaining ones went very well. Yes, I stumbled just a tiny bit on a very fast piece which required more left hand movement, but I’m sure they didn’t even notice it, and since it was doing so well, I decided to play and sing along to the postlude which to my surprise afterwards, there being a handful of people standing below and clapping. One of them later said to me that it was a delight to hear my voice. Gee, I think my head got a little swelled over that comment.

I’m hoping after today, I won’t be as worrisome as I’ve been since I began playing for them. I did take a moment to count the number of participants, and to my surprise there were 55 people in attendance. While the visiting Pastor was giving her sermon, I took the above photo, just so all of you’d have an idea of what that beautiful church looks like on the inside. Unfortunately they didn’t have that gorgeous Celtic cross on their altar today, and likely because we’re still in Eastertide.

As soon as I got back to office, I changed into my work clothes and headed out to my garden where I worked for a good three hours preparing the soil and then planting onions and potatoes, along with uncovering the garlic which was already starting to grow up and beyond the straw ‘cover’ I had over them for winter. My goodness, it looks like all of what I planted is above ground, so for sure I’ll have a heck of a lot of hard-neck garlic I’ll be putting to use.

Once my planting was done, I headed over to my project and continued with stripping that wardrobe I decided to bring back to life. Now that I’m well over half finished with it, I’m not a bit sorry over making the decision to resurrect it. What did surprise me the most, was finding not even one cracked or broken panel in it, which will keep it all the more original looking. I also discovered the company who built it, used three and maybe for different types of wood in its construction. Due to its style, I dare say that piece was likely manufactured in or around the 1890’s, which would put it well over 125 years old. Once again, I can’t begin to remind everyone how much longer lasting real wood furniture is over all that composite crap people are paying big bucks for in those furniture and big box stores. No thank you very much.

Once I had my fill of the political news today, and especially after watching a short video which Rob Sand posted on Facebook regarding the bald-faced lies our Governor was saying about the restrictions she put in place against his ability to perform audits in our State, I’ve come to believe that if we don’t get this craziness stopped, our democracy will be on a fast-tracked downward slide into chaos, and all because of who managed to get elected as our POTUS. Isn’t each day starting to feel like a politically insane Ground Hog Day?

Tonight’s One-liner is: Unless generosity of spirit prevails among us humans, there can never be upon this earth, an ideal life.
