What’s Cooking @ MCPL

Another winter day came and went, and fortunately I didn’t have to be out of office any more than I had to. By the time the hour of four arrived, the light sleet was turning into snow, but by the time I arrived home, it had pretty much tapered off, so we’ll see how much we have on the ground come morning.

There were some bills that had trickled in over these past few days, so I went ahead and paid them, along stopping over at a bank to get some business done which I’d been putting off for months. Fortunately the personal banker who was assisting me, I’ve know for a great many years, so after my banking chore was finished, we sat and had good chat over the ‘good old days’ when the both of us were young and semi-good looking.

I spent some time with one of my buyers who needed my help in submitting a request for repairs to a seller, which once completed, got scanned, and emailed over to the listing agent. Hopefully those issues will get rectified so we can continue moving forward with the purchase of that home. Yes, there’s always those annoying little hiccups which must be dealt with on occasion.

One of my clients asked if I would be free to stop over to the library after the hour of five today because once a month the members of the ‘What’s Cooking @ MCPL? Cookbook Club’ are called to follow a recipe of their choice out of one of the library’s many cookbooks which would follow the ‘theme’ of that particular month, and this month’s theme was Cajun Cuisine. Since I wasn’t tied up at that hour, I decided to head over my favorite library, where I was delightfully surprised to find more cooks and dishes than I ever would’ve expected.

After a few introductions, everyone got up from their seats and lined up at the banquet tables and began serving themselves from the pots, pans and dishes which were clearly marked as to what it was called. Once seated with our portions, we began taste-testing what we’d taken. Fortunately, there was a hand-out at our seats which contained the recipes of what we were eating, along with the names of the providers.

Soon after everyone had finished, each person who created whatever ‘eats’ they’d provided, was given the opportunity to talk about what they’d made, along with any substitutions or omissions they’d made to their recipes. As chance would have it, there were four recipes I found to be the tastiest which were: ‘Red Bean Soup’, ‘Seafood Salad’, Creamy Andoville Pasta’ and Cajun Sheet-Pan Shrimp “Boil”. Thinking I was just gonna have a taste of this and that, I ended up eating so much, to where I completely dismissed the idea of preparing an evening meal for myself.

Before leaving, the presenter pointed to a large wheeled caddy containing a copious selection of cookbooks which the members would take the time to review and then find a suitable recipe for this coming month’s theme which will be ‘Slow Cooking’, so if any of you living here in Mason City have had even a passing thought of joining a cooking club, I would highly recommend giving it a try. The food was good, the atmosphere was up-beat, and the participants delightful, so what are you waiting for?

Having spoken with a past client this afternoon about how shocked I’ve been regrading the rampant ignorance/stupidity I’ve been encountering in our general public, I couldn’t help forwarding her this Facebook video which pretty much sums up my core beliefs, so if you have a few minutes to spare, click on the following link:
