I wasn’t surprised to find it minus two degrees as I was heading to office, and definitely glad I removed all that melting snow from my front sidewalks because there definitely would’ve been some dangerous ice patches this morning.
Without a doubt, my morning was filled with church duties which had me a bit nervous because of my having been asked to play that massive pipe organ again, along with my needing to be at First Presbyterian Church no later than shortly after the hour of ten, just so I would be readied for their Service.
Having managed to play two Services this weekend at the flagship of North Iowa’s Lutheran churches, I can now humbly say that I managed to play those two at Trinity Lutheran Church this weekend without making any glaring mistakes. Never would I have thought yours truly would be seated on the bench of that pipe organ and playing for such a large community. After playing for them late yesterday, there were several members who came up to me saying how much they enjoyed it, and since I played slightly better this morning, I’m confident the music was well received. I’m now hoping they’ll call on me from time to time to fill in any blank openings they’ll have. I made sure to write down in my music folio, the stops I was using, just so I wouldn’t have to start experimenting again, as I’m not one who keeps changing setting on a organ.
Several of my real estate colleagues was quite surprised when turning around and seeing me in their choir loft and then reading that I was listed in their bulletin as this morning’s organist.
I did manage to make it to First Presbyterian Church in time, and my playing at their Service went quite well to where one of their members mentioned afterwards that I’m finally playing those hymns at their speed of choice which is fast. The only piece that’s left for me to ‘crack’ is one they use every Sunday which is that jazzy one I spoke about. When I caught up with Pastor Kit Murphy afterwards, I asked that he and I get together some afternoon, just so I can have him sing it while I’m playing. I believe once we’ve gone over it a few times, it should be just fine. By the time I was pulling out of their parking lot, it was approaching Noon, so I headed over to Taco Tico and grabbed something light to hold me over until my evening meal.
Once back at office, I had my little snack and then began reading and watching some of the ‘legit’ news feeds, and since just about everything we’ve been seeing on the news, those news feeds are starting to look more like watching train wrecks, which a person just can’t stop looking at. Of course by the time I pulled myself away, the deep anxieties began creeping in which prompted me to go work on my project for a good three hours, just so I could work it out of me. Hopefully I won’t allow myself to get stirred up like that again.
What I truly can’t get my brain wrapped around, are these politicians and appointees who’re purposely doing things that are going to harm our general public in the long run, yet they seem to keep moving forward without any sense of compunction. Oh, and after reading where they’ve now taking over the National Archives, that’s likely when my deep ‘angst’ started gnawing at me. What likely triggered it, was recalling when Hitler and his thugs started burning large piles of books, and you know how that all ended. Right?
Oh by the way, did you know that Iowa is second in the Nation for having the most banned books in public schools? Yes, we’re just one notch away from Florida. Oh, and of course you also heard that our Governor Reynolds is creating her own DOGE for the State of Iowa. Now let’s see if her budget cutting and overhauls are partisan related.
Yes, I dare say it was an information overload for me today.
