Learning The True Definition

As it happens nearly every year around this time, I find myself scrambling to get those last little items on my Christmas list rounded up, and then making sure I’d not forgotten anyone, so you can imagine what I was doing nearly the entire day. I also had to make time to get the wooden floors in my office scrubbed from all the winter foot traffic creating cat tracks.

My Christmas Eve Day plans had to be altered because one of my soon to be clients wanted to meet up with me late tomorrow morning, and since business comes first, I did a change of plans with my yearly Christmas gifting to a group of deeply appreciative seniors.

Before I could start getting those gift bags filled, there were several stops I had to make to pick up items I’d planned on including, and once I had them rounded up, I started one by one filling them up, and after they were readied, I suddenly realized I’d gone a little overboard, but wasn’t going to worry about it because I knew everything would be well received.

Once I had my vehicle loaded with those bags, I started making my deliveries, and to my surprise, nearly everyone was home, and those who weren’t, I simply left them at their front doors knowing they’d see them more sooner than later. Yes, that yearly project ended up being another success, and happy to spend a few moment visiting with those who were home. Many invited me to step in for a short visit, but I had to tell them that there were other deliveries to be made.

Over this past decade, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m finally learning the true definition of gift giving, and believe me, it’s become an enrichment to where I don’t even think for a moment about what someone thinks or doesn’t think about getting a gift from me with absolutely no strings attached. I’m sure all of you’ve been caught up in that vicious circle where if somebody gives something of value to you, they you’re automatically compelled to give back similarly. Gosh, I’m sure glad I’m totally out of that mindset.

I did find I had left-overs of my homemade goodies which I’ll be giving to those who’ve got a taste for something good. I’ve already got a few people in mind who’ll be getting a call from me.

Not much else was happening on my side of the fence other than my taking a good 45 minutes to seat myself at piano and run thru a few pieces I’ve been working on.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention my having told a friend today about that guy who was out prancing and dancing in his undershorts, and wouldn’t you know, someone took a video of it and sent it out into the social medias. What bothered her the most, were the comments people had posted which were making it sound like it was the coolest thing to do, rather than realizing that he definitely had some issues that needed to be addressed. I still can’t believe I’d seen someone nearly naked out in public with our temps hovering around 18 degrees, and mind you, right here in River City.

Tonight’s One-liner is: Christmas is a season not only of rejoicing, but of reflection.
