We certainly had an about-face with our weather today when by early afternoon the sun was shining brightly and the temps were hovering around 45 degrees. If I already mentioned this, I’m repeating myself when saying I read some time ago where Mason City is, if my memory serves me correctly, in the top ten of communities in the United States where there’s radical temperature differences over a year’s time. I dare say, today was just one lesser example.
Most of my morning was spent fretting over a closing that was supposed to have taken place on Thursday, and then again on Friday, and finally scheduled for shortly after Noon today. I did find out shortly after nine this morning that the funds did get wired into the closing agent’s trust account, and shortly thereafter, the buyer and the selling agent were wanting to be given permission to start unloading before closing, which of course had to be denied because a home sale is never a done deal until it’s fully closed out by either a bank or closing agency. Thank goodness it finally happened and for sure all involved were breathing sighs of relief.
Once that closing was over, I was able to get back to working on two more closings that’ll be coming up at the end of the week, and as of now, it looks like they’ll be closing on time. I’m sure everyone’s wanting to get settled-in before Christmas, and I certainly don’t blame them.
After I finished working on those files, I headed out to run a number of errands which took me to a paint store, a bank, a gas station and a quick pick-up of my sold sign at the home we closed today. With the weather being so pleasant, I was actually looking for things to do outdoors, because I could welcomely take days like this all winter long.
As much as I hated reading about it, I can’t help sharing my thoughts about these micro-biologists who’re threatening the survival of humanity by creating and experimenting with the ‘mirror’ bacteria they’ve created. From what I’ve already read, many are calling for a complete halt of testing something that could easily wipe humanity off the face of the earth. Of course with the increased use of artificial intelligence by scientists in all fields, they’re stretching the limits beyond our understanding, which is why we all need to slow down and start critically forward thinking about what the end results could be from those discoveries. As in many other walks of life, I’m sure there’s a great number of overly-exuberant scientists who’ve shifted their AI tools into overdrive.
The remainder of my afternoon was spent visiting with a seller regarding the sale of her home, and by the time I was ready to leave, we’d managed to come up with an asking price and day I’ll be stopping by to sign the listing documents, so it looks like I’ll be sending a new listing out into the cyber-universe before Christmas.
Tonight’s photo happens to be one I took of my Christmas present to myself which I’ve had in storage for about two years before I finally decided to bite the bullet and pay to have it re-upholstered, and I’m sure many of you are thinking, “What style of chair is that?” Well, that particular chair sat in the waiting area of a prominent attorney’s office for a very many years, and when the last remaining attorney announced that he was closing his doors, I asked if the chair was for sale and at the time he wouldn’t give me an answer, but about two months later he called and said he’d sell it, so I ran over and got a good look at it before agreeing to pay him more than I thought it was worth at the time, but now I’m completely happy it’s now a permanent fixture in my office as a side chair/conversation piece.
The reason I had to get it re-covered, was because the original fabric was coming apart, and the foam cushion was deteriorating into a powder form. Not to worry, it’s now just like new. I’ve come to the conclusion that the founding attorney must’ve purchased it in the 1950’s which would’ve been at the height of the mid-century modern movement here in America. For sure, it’s a very comfortable chair. I hope you like it as much as I do.
Tonight’s One-liner is: What we plant in the soil of contemplation, we shall reap in the harvest of action.
