Shameless Ringleader

In spite of it being a little bit more than crisp outdoors this morning, it did end up turning into a rather pleasant day, but it would’ve been better if the wind wasn’t blowing. Now that we’re barreling down toward the end of October, I’m bracing myself for the coming month of November which has always been at the top of my list as being my most dis-liked, and only because the days are usually cold and gray.

My morning was pretty much taken up by the two closings which were a struggle at best, but I’m almost always reminded that the cheaper homes are the ones which suck up a great deal more time and energy. Whenever hearing an associate gloating over a big-ticket sale, I’d like to say, “Well, if you haven’t noticed, the higher the prices, the more easy-peasy your job is, so if you think I should be impressed that you walked away with a big fat commission check, I’m definitely not.” There’s one nameless Realtor who’s had a good run with selling the higher-end properties, and whenever there’d be something extra that needed to be done, it was made to sound like it was one of the most difficult closings. Yes, as in many other professions, Realtors can get spoiled in their jobs as well.

Having not seen the selling agent for some time, we did have a nice chat about the recent happenings in our real estate world. Of course she’s got an inside track on gathering information on an aged ‘reli’ of my, and from what I heard today, it sounded like my ‘reli’ is fast-circling the drain, so I won’t be a bit surprised if more sooner than later, there’ll be a death notice published. To this day, I have no idea why that person suddenly developed an intense dis-like for me, because even now, I can’t think of one thing that would’ve caused such and about-face, other than possibly a shameless ringleader having poisoned another mind with bald-faced lies. Luckily, it’s all on them instead of me.

Later this morning, I made quick run over to my lakeshore listing in Clear Lake to open the home up for another agent who had a prospective buyer. When I got there, I made sure all the lights were on and the door unlocked. Unfortunately the owner is preparing for a move, so it wasn’t as presentable as I would’ve liked, but I did alert the buyer and his agent that the owner was preparing for a move. I’m still patiently waiting for a call-back from a buyer I showed it to over a month ago, who called inquiring on it again last week. Unfortunately he lives too far away to take an hour or so off work to look at it again.

On my way back, I happened upon an accident which must’ve taken place shortly before I arrived on the scene, but from the looks of it, there wasn’t anyone hurt, but there was definitely some major damage done to both the sedan and that special bus we see driving around which provides transportation for handicapped individuals. After getting a good look at the positions of the two vehicles, I really couldn’t tell who’s fault it was. My gosh! I can’t believe how crazy people have been driving lately, and for sure, one must always be on the look-out for those who’re running stop signs, red lights, and cutting lanes short.

Upon my return to office, I went back thru those two closed files one more time, just to make sure all the necessary docs were contained before I sent them to my long-term filing system. Yes, I was indeed happy they both closed on time. I do have to send out a ‘thank you’ card to a friend of mine who recommended one of the sellers to me.

Since I’ve got a public open house scheduled for tomorrow over at my listing in Nora Springs, I grabbed another ‘arrowed’ tent sign and ran over there and placed it on their main drag, just so all the drivers would see it as they were coming from work this afternoon, so wish me luck tomorrow afternoon. I’m hoping whomever arrives, is welcomed by one more of those charming homes which ‘picks’ its new owners. In my mind, there’s no other reason why it hasn’t yet sold.

When I arrived back at office, I found a price reduction in my email for the building I just this week listed which is located at 11 -15 2nd St. NE here in Mason City. It’s now at a bargain-basement price of $81,255.00, and don’t ask me why it’s a crazy amount, or I just might have to tell you the whole story. For sure, for the right person, it couldn’t be a better opportunity to do a custom re-vamp. As I said before, that building used to be our City Hall, along with offices where the water bills were paid, which is likely why that structure more than one vault.

With a good hour left of my afternoon, I busied myself with doing a little office housekeeping, which included getting my wooden floors to sparkle once again. I dare say, they’ve held up very well over these past thirteen years, and glad I made the executive decision to have them refinished. Yes, I’m very much spoiled with having a clean and comfortable office building in which to work. Unfortunately, whenever I’m in other offices around the city, I can almost immediately smell the ground-in dirt in their commercial carpets. No thank you very much.

Tonight’s One-liner is: Knowledge is proud that it knows so much; wisdom is humble that it knows no more.
