That cold northwest wind definitely drove the temps down today, and ever-glad I got nearly all my garden harvesting done before it arrived. When looking at this weeks weather, it appeared Tuesday night is going to be the coldest, but we have to remind ourselves, this’ll be the first frost all the way into the middle of October which in years past, would’ve been something quite unheard of.
When I arrived at office, I headed right back to my darkened corner to get my contemplative session started which was much needed because the happenings of this past week were certainly filled with emotional roller-coasters, and now being over a week out from walking away from a relationship with a toxic and slightly bi-polar individual, I’m finally beginning to feel whole once again. I must admit how thankful I am for having gone back to my contemplative form of prayer which I’d fallen away from a number of years ago, but when the pandemic hit, that’s what gave me the incentive to return. Thank heaven!
Once my session was completed, I called my dear friend to see how she’s been, and when visiting about my harvests yesterday, she agreed to take one of those Buttercup squash, along with a handful of carrots, so I’ll be dropping those off early tomorrow morning. Over the course of the day, I managed to give away thirty-five of them to those who’d asked, so it looks like I’ll not be worrying about getting rid of the rest of them due to their popularity. I was told today what the basic ingredients were for Buttercup squash soup, and just listening to what goes into it, I was already getting hungry for something as hearty as it sounded. I’ll be putting a number of packages of it in the freezer which will be a healthy switch-out with potatoes.
After my phone call was over, I changed into my work clothes and headed over to my project where I worked for about three hours until it was time for me to change back into my street clothes and meet a couple at a home they’d asked to see, and since I’ve known them for a number of years, we spent a little more time visiting after the showing was over. Every time I’m around them, we always have funny things to talk about, and of course the highlight of my day ended up being in their company because I managed to get a few much needed belly-laughs. Yes, they’re definitely darned good people.
Once the showing was over, I decided to head home early and get back out into my garden and harvest a small patch of onions which were more than ready to be pulled. I wasn’t expecting as many as I’d found, so I guess I won’t have to be buying onions for awhile. While out there, I made sure to place markers on two Burr Oak tree seedlings which sprouted this Spring, so if I have time before the hard frost, I’ll be transplanting them in more appropriate locations.
There really wasn’t much more happening on my side of the fence today worth talking about, so I’ll sign off with a wish that all of you have a restful evening and a safe and productive day tomorrow.
