Fobs Around Their Necks

Of course we just couldn’t get thru one day without rain again, so it appears our current weather conditions are one big repetitive circle. I had an appointment just north of the city this morning, and it looks like the water level of the Winnebago River hasn’t noticeably dropped. I was standing outside my car visiting with a gentleman for a few minutes, and in that short period of time, there was a swarm of mosquitos buzzing around me. Thank goodness that all-natural repellent I purchased arrived, and now I’m freely spraying myself with it.

The bulk of my morning was taken up with showing three homes to a prospective buyer, and unfortunately there wasn’t one creating any sort of strong interest, so I’ll have to continue watching for something in that 80K to $120K price range. My goodness! I can’t believe the condition of some of those homes they’re asking nearly $100K for, and today’s viewings were no exception. There’s definitely some serious counseling needing to be done with sellers, just so their homes are more attractive to our first-time buyers. It’s no wonder three of our recent listings managed to get sold in a short period of time, and likely because they were clean and ready to move into.

We did get another price reduction on our listing at 325 – 10th St. NW yesterday, so it’s now at $197,500 which I believe is one heck of a buy considering what the homes around it are selling for. As much as I was of the belief it would sell before a competitor’s listing two blocks away, it didn’t happen, so for whatever reason, someone must’ve wanted that home instead. There’s no doubt 325 – 10th St. NW is one of the best designed/built homes of its time, and all I can say is, someone’s gonna have one heck of a nice home for the money, because its quality couldn’t be matched unless someone would be willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars more to build one of such caliber, so please put the word out.

I happened to run into a past customer today whom I’d been thinking about of late, so we had a really good chat, and happy to find her well and good. She’s one of those who’s hard to get to know, but once you’ve got past her ‘barrier’, she’s absolutely delightful. She was a peach to work with while searching for the perfect fit, and luckily I found it. She always gets a kick out of the comical stories I have to share, and today’s was the one about my encounter with an exceptionally elderly woman I’ve known for a great many years who got all bent out of shape after I told her I wasn’t going to vote for D.T., which triggered some pretty unbelievable non-factual statements.

I’d say the highlight of my day, was bringing up to speed one of our local business owners who didn’t know that David Rachie is out of the picture with his ‘ghost’ hotel project, along with our city having taken title to that decrepit mall for the third time. He didn’t even know our city forked-over to Mr. Rachie, close to 2.5 millions dollars, and nothing to show for it.

My gosh! I can’t believe how little our residents know about all the things that had taken place from the time David Rachie arrived on the scene. Before we ended our conversation, I insisted he take the time to do his own research, just so he could see for himself. He made me laugh when saying, “There’s a number of people in our city’s administration who should be wearing fobs around their necks that say, ‘You can’t fix stupid.’” Well, I guess at least everyone would know right off the bat what type of mindsets they’re dealing with from the get go. Too funny.

The tree expert stopped by today to get paid for the removal and grinding of stumps of those many dead Ash trees. While writing out the check, I couldn’t help sharing a few more of my thoughts about a certain wayward soul who just can’t seem to realize that the puddle of life he’s in, was pretty much self-made, and instead of owning up to it, he’s ‘yell-bent’ on blaming everyone else, which is why I’ve learned to steer clear of such psychological vampires. Yes, they’ll continue to ‘feed’ on you until you’re right down there splashing around with them in their murky puddles. Now truthfully, who in their right mind would want that?

My last appointment of the day was the showing of a home which recently hit the market, and since there are so few bigger ranch homes that are fairly priced, it’s been a struggle trying to find one that fits their requirements. It’s a nice home, and after looking at several comparatives that recently sold, I’d say it’s priced within its range. Since they always have to do some thinking and sleeping on what they’ve looked at, I really won’t know how they felt about it until either tomorrow or the next day, but at least they’re not impetuous buyers who oft times jump before thinking things thru.

Tonight’s One-liner is: We hang the petty thieves, and appoint the great ones to public office.
