One thing we always seem to find amazing about North Iowa, is how quickly our weather can change from one day to the next, and today being a shining example with the bright sun, a cooling northwest wind, and the drying-up of our streets and curbsides from yesterday’s heavy rain.
I was greatly saddened to find yet one more of my trees having succumbed to the force of yesterday’s wind, and in spite of that tree being over twenty years old and healthy as can be, the combination of the strong wind and water-saturated soil around it, I found it uprooted and lying flat on the ground early this morning.
Knowing such uprootings must’ve happened all over North Iowa yesterday, I’m all the more sad for the cardinals and other fruit eating birds in my neighborhood, because it just so happened to be one of our native Choke Cherry trees which would offer up an abundance of berries each and every year for their taking. A very many years ago, we used to walk the fence lines and pick those berries and later converted into Choke Cherry jelly which was always a special treat. I guess it was just one more example of the increasing strength of Mother Nature’s ability to create havoc within our communities.
I don’t believe there’s yet to be given a head-count of those who’d lost their lives in southern Iowa which were caused by those tornados that touched down, so let’s hope those numbers were low. Unless we’ve personally experienced such natural disasters, the aftermath of violent storms is never fully comprehended until a person is standing smack dab in the midst of it.
My ‘quick’ close on a property took place today, and delighted to find everything falling into place as planned. I happened to have the opportunity to visit with the new owner who’s planning on making Mason City his new home. You can be sure I gave him the most gracious of welcomes. I kiddingly said, “If you end up liking it here, invite all your friends and relatives.” Yes, we definitely need more forward-thinking and upward-moving young people in our midst.
I received an unexpected anonymous letter in my office mail today which after opening and reading it, has likely put a screeching halt to any future incidents similar to what happened at the back of my office over a week ago. I guess at one point in our lives we’ve all said and done regrettable things, but at least the person writing that letter, stepped up to the plate and admitted the wrongdoing, along with a promise to never do such a thing again. As far as holding a hateful grudge against that person, at this point it’ll likely not happen, but on a positive note, at least it gave me the incentive to update and increase the security/surveillance for my office building. Now you see, from bad things come good, as long as we recognize and then reach for it.
Late this morning I took the time to deliver the boxes of home made ‘edible’ items over to St. Paul Lutheran which they’ll be selling at their popcorn stand out in front of their church this coming Saturday during the Band Festival Parade. I spent a great deal of time making it, so hopefully it’ll all be as well received as it has been with the many others I’ve gifted the very same ‘product’.
Keep in mind, I’m not being proud and/or pompous when saying most people haven’t tasted something similar to it in a very long time, and only because it was made from scratch using all natural and chemical-free ingredients. Jokingly, I said to one of their members who’d already had a taste of my product, “Well, if times get really tough, I could actually make a small business out of it.” With that said, please be sure to stop over to St. Paul Lutheran and have a sampling, and if you like it, buy one, two or even three, because the money made from those sales, is all going towards a good cause with our Public School System, and just so you know, I personally won’t be there, and only because I know some of my readers may think I’ll be in attendance. Unfortunately I have other commitments during that time.
The highlight of my day was the time spent listing a home located at 113 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, Iowa, which in my mind, is the best to be had in its price range for Nora Spring’s market at this time. We have it listed at $164,500.00 which is a competitive price considering all the bells and whistles is has to offer. The features of the home include three roomy bedrooms, 1 ½ baths, newer thermal windows, permanent siding, high efficiency furnace with central air, circuit breaker wiring, gorgeous oak woodwork and built-ins, oodles of storage, an over-sized welcoming front porch for summertime enjoyment, fenced yard and tastefully landscaped.
Without a doubt, this home has the ‘feel’ of luxury, comfort and convenience, so don’t wait another moment to place a call to Holtz Realty for your private showing, and just for your convenience, I’ve posted its main exterior photo as tonight’s, and after you click on it, you’ll be taken to a slide-show. Yes, I know you’ll agree, it is a beauty!
Tonight’s One-liner is: A simple rule in dealing with those who’re hard to get along with, is to remember that this person is striving to assert his or her superiority, and you must deal with him or her from that point of view.
