Scream-A-Thons

The near gale-force wind today was enough to keep me indoors all the more. It was so strong this morning that when I got out of my car, it was as though a ghost suddenly slammed the door behind me.

My morning was consumed with returning phone calls and emails, along with pulling in all the extra documents I was needing for a closing that coming up next week. Once I’d finished everything on the real estate side, I headed back to my little nook and began cracking more black walnuts, and in spite of the many interrupting phone calls, I managed to get over two cups of meats readied for their vacuum-wrapped freezer storage. I have to admit, that vacuum bagging machine I purchased some years ago, has certainly paid for itself over and over again.

I did have an out of office appointment to meet with the buyer of a property who was having several inspections done, and when those two inspectors arrived, I couldn’t help bringing up just one tidbit of memory from many years ago by naming the street and house which was his and wife’s first home. What I’m sure shocked him even more, was knowing I didn’t even sell it to him. I teasingly added, “Just remember, I have the memory of an elephant.”, and his knee-jerk reply being “You certainly do.”

While standing there waiting for them to do their thing, and realizing I’d already opened that door to my ‘archived’ memories, I began remembering someone many of us now know, having pulled up at an open house I was having well over ten years ago over at home close to our downtown, and since it was located in one of our ‘marginal’ neighborhoods, I had to be all the more watchful of the comings and goings of lookers. At first glance, I thought the visitor we now know, was one I was needing to keep a closer eye on, and mostly because of how he was dressed and the way he talked. Not to worry, I wasn’t held at gunpoint and nothing was stolen, as he was simply one of those our old ones would refer to as while rolling their eyes, “He’s definitely not from around these parts.” The jury is still out for me when trying to decide if I was listening to an accent, a speech impediment or a lisp. Yes, that’s what happens whenever someone or something triggers my long term memory switch.

When I arrived back at office, I discovered the documents I’d been waiting for had finally arrived in my email, so I printed them out and busied myself in getting the sellers’ closing numbers logged and then sent over to the bank which is handling the closing. Thank goodness that was done because the banker was getting all the more anxious over not having them.

I did take some time to get the news feeds read, and what really went to my core, was reading where a young man was pronounced dead after hitting a dear while driving his motorcycle in that small town of Plymouth. Isn’t it a crying shame the DNR hasn’t done something about the rising population of those vile creatures in our State? As I mentioned before, I’d freely and willing hunt them for their meat, but I absolutely can not stand even the smell of their meat no matter how well it’s been doctored up with spices and sauces. I dare say my family must’ve inherited a negative genetic pre-disposition towards deer meat. Even while I write about them, I can ‘smell’ that disgusting meat. I mentioned more than once our needing to open a cat or dog food factory and start re-purposing their carcasses. Oh, and don’t forget, we’re likely gonna start hearing about those monster feral hogs that are making their way here from the Canadian Provinces, and believe you me, they’re going to be an even bigger problem for farmers and country homesteaders. Just remember, they’ll go after and eat just about anything live or dead.

I happened to notice where ‘D.T.’ is now courting the billionaires in our country since he’s not getting as many crowds at his ‘scream-a-thons’. My gosh, I’m still shaking my head wondering how so many people have fallen for him hook, line and sinker, and mostly because I’ve never once considered myself the brightest bulb in the auditorium, but when knowing certain individuals whom I once admired their knowledge and acumen, I’ve had to pull my impression of them down a few more notches. There’s gotta be something I’m missing, or all the many more are simply getting dumber by the day. I insist more people start re-visiting their history books and read only the real news like what’s provided by BBC which is one of the highest rated feeds in the world. Yes, there are others, but BBC online is one of my favorites.

Just today I happened to notice the Silver Maple trees are beginning to bud, so we should be seeing some greening-up in the coming months, but then comes the mowing, weeding and gardening. I’m still waiting for various seeds to start sprouting in the indoor flats I have which will hopefully provide more produce this season. After last year’s flub, I’ll most likely nevermore buy tomato, pepper or cucumber plants because some carry diseases and insects which can negatively affect the soil, as well as other plants. Lesson definitely learned.

Tonight’s One-liner is: Between two evils, I always pick the one I never tried before.
