Now if the wind hadn’t come up again, it would’ve been a relatively pleasant day outdoors. I once again found it amazing to see how quickly the grass is turning green, especially considering how cold these recent nights have been.
This morning’s scheduled showing didn’t go as well as expected, and likely due to the owner not having done a good cleaning and tidying-up before we arrived. One thing I’m very certain of, is the bulk of today’s buyers freely and willingly walking away from homes which need some of the simplest and inexpensive things to be done to make them more appealing. Yes, there’s been far too many who’ve convinced themselves that making cosmetic updates would be a great challenge both financially and metaphysically. I’m of the belief most of today’s parents haven’t taught their children how to make their own home improvements, and unfortunately I’ve heard many parents over the years say to me, “I want my child to start out better than I did.”, which is definitely an indication of enabling, yet not realizing their children aren’t learning valuable life lessons which they can in turn, pass on to their own children. Yes, too many bad traits become generational ones, and all due to non-forward-thinking parents.
As chance would have it, I did manage to get the home sold I had an offer on yesterday, which came as a relief because my buyer had been getting beat-out by other buyers due to there being multiple offers. During a conversation I was having with another Realtor yesterday, I insisted that these chronic multiple offer situations we’re experiencing, has definitely not been good for the buyers, because I’ve found, the more times a given buyer is beat-out by another, the likelihood of them paying more than they should’ve for the one they finally end up with, and only because they were getting tired of not getting what they wanted, so they simply offer all the higher. Unfortunately, those who ended up being at the top of those bidding wars, soon after realize they’d been irrational at the time. Such regrets happen often at public auctions where people allow their emotions to kick-in, and end up paying far more for an item, just to keep the other bidder from getting it. Yes, I’ve personally seen it happen many-a-time.
I had a very nice chat with a gentleman today who’s rapidly moving toward retirement. I couldn’t help later asking if he’s working at getting those empty time slots filled. From the sounds of it, their first plans are to make extra trips to see their children who live out of State, but that was about it for now. As an encouragement, I softly mentioned how much I admire retirees who work hard at giving back to the communities that’ve financially supported them over the years, and especially those who possess talents which can be shared. After we ended our chat, I was soulfully hoping my cloaked encouragement to help others, was taken to heart.
Finding myself in the ‘mood’ again, I packed up some more ‘stuff’ and headed over to a friend’s home for a delivery of things I’m sure either she or one of her relatives can put to use. I was happy they were well received, including one item I knew she’d add to her collection. Likely what prompted me to gather up more things, was my having gone online and looked at the arial photos of several homes of people I know. I wasn’t a bit surprised to see so much dysfunction there was in their yards, and so much so, I dare say if I lived there, I wouldn’t even want to go home. It’s amazing how blind people can become when living in such environments. I couldn’t help wondering what the inside of their homes looked like when seeing so much dis-array in their yards, and especially the rear yards. Having known one of them for a number of years, I’d wager there are only narrow paths left within for walking, and all remaining floor space is taken up with stacks of paper and boxes. Yes, hoarders are numerous in this materialistic age.
It appears I may be getting another home listed sometime next month, and if it’s priced right, I doubt if it’ll be on the market very long since it has a number of features today’s buying public are after. I definitely won’t have to worry about it being ‘showable’ because I’m very familiar with the owner’s care and maintenance regimen. I’m only hoping whomever buys it, will keep it maintained similarly.
Due to it being Good Friday, I wasn’t a bit surprised to find less activity in real estate, but as I mentioned, I did manage to get another box of interesting ‘stuff’ out of my office and delivered to a friend which ended up being the highlight of my day.
