A New Star Trek Series

Another crispy-cold day arrived and as much as I was hoping the northwest wind would go down with the sun last night, it was blowing again all day. When I looked at the outside temp early this morning, I noticed it was at 20 degrees which meant likely all of our early-Spring greenery got frosted.

After numerous emails and phone calls were returned, I spent the rest of the morning out running errands, and one of them being my having to go and pick up a ‘For Sale’ sign that was lying near a dumpster about a block away, and thank goodness the building custodian was kind enough to call and tell me he’d picked it up, so I stopped over and grabbed it. I couldn’t help mentioning how sick and tired I’ve become over all this theft and vandalism that’s been going on, in and around our downtown area. As soon as I said it, it was like a switch was turned on with him, and boy did he spill his guts about what he’s been having to contend with on a near daily basis, so I guess my thoughts and concerns are likely those of all the many.

I did forget to mention what I discovered last week while walking down to a shop several blocks south of the Southbridge Mall. Since I was taking short-cuts to get there, I walked south thru the interior of the mall, and then across the parking lot, and decided to cross that pedestrian bridge near ‘The River’ apartments. Oh my goodness! I did not know that there’s a public sidewalk right next to those main floor apartments, and for sure I’d never want to live in those units when knowing there’s likely bikers and pedestrians on it all hours of the night. Somebody had a dog in one of those units which started to frantically bark as I walked past, which I’m sure happens many times during the day. I’m now wondering how well-lit that long and hidden sidewalk is.

My tax person called today to tell me my taxes were ready to be picked up, and with having part of my afternoon free, I headed out to pick them up, and when I got there, he’d already had everything laid out, just so he could go over the figures before handing me the package. I was glad to hear he was pleased with the new way in which I had them prepared, and so much so, he said they couldn’t have been arranged any better.  His bill definitely reflected all the extra work I put into getting them in order. Yes, I know far too many people who hand boxes of bills and receipts to their tax preparers and expect to get off cheap. Well, I’ve known for years, that’s not the way it works.

I couldn’t help being a little brittle when mentioning what an idiotic idea our Governor has with wanting to eliminate our State income tax when knowing fully-well, the percentages of other State taxes will get increased, but of course they won’t be raising the assessments on farmland because that’s always been a ‘sacred cow’ that can’t be disturbed. Really? I dare not even ‘go there’ regarding all the ‘freebies’ our State and Federal Government gives our ‘poor’ farmers. Before I left, we ended up talking about the horrendous debt many in our general public has accumulated, and the ‘match’ which I believe will create another explosive financial crisis, is gonna be the credit card debt, and from there it’ll spiral into all the other areas of banking and commerce. I couldn’t help saying how much I’m coming to believe the present state of our political system, the out of control debt our general public is allowing itself to be saddled with, and the crazy mindsets of people I used to think were intelligent, has left me believing we’re all part of a new Star Trek series which revolves around their first contact with an alien world. When you stop to think about it, just consider how much has changed in our world over these past 25 years, and then you fully agreed.

The remainder of my afternoon was spent setting up appointments for tomorrow, and by the looks of it, I’m gonna be out of office more than I’ll be in for the bulk of the day. Hopefully the wind won’t be blowing so hard tomorrow because I have an appointment at an out of town acreage which will take a big bite out of my free time. Not to worry, I do enjoy the company of those buyers, so I’m sure it’ll be another delightful experience.

I was visited by a young man who’s interested in a property that’s not listed, so we sat and talked about pricing and options, and before leaving I said to him, “Make sure you get to a bank and find out if you can get a loan before you even think about doing any negotiating with the owner.”, so we’ll see what he has to say the next time he darkens my door. Like I said before, I don’t even want to think about all the free counseling I’ve provided for buyers and sellers over these many years.

When reading the news today, it appears Russia is now having to deal with military incursions on their own soil, and even though Putin’s ‘crowned’ himself president again, I’m starting to believe he’ll not be in power when his next rigged election comes around. Perhaps with that growing number of Siberian fighters, Russia’s government will fall from within. Let us all hope so. When you stop to think about it, he can’t possibly put everyone in prison. Right?

Knowing I have a practice session tomorrow afternoon with those two clarinetists, I sat down at piano and ran thru those pieces before calling it ‘good’ and heading in the direction of home. Yes, it was a full day, and also a good one.

Tonight’s One-liner is: Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care.
