Thank heaven we didn’t get anymore snow than we did last night, and fortunately the pavements weren’t icy as I was heading to work this morning. As much as I wanted to be at office a little earlier than normal, I ended up sleeping longer than planned.
When I arrived at office, I began planning my day to where I’d have everything done and then head out to spend some free time at paying-it-forward, but first I had to get some end of the month bills paid and then go over to Fareway and pick up a few cleaning supplies I was in need of.
Once everything was done, I headed over to work at cleaning up an unnecessary mess that was made my a person who insisted he was proficient at painting a small room, but soon after, it was discovered he knew little or nothing about painting. I dare not go into any detail, but I can assure you, a kindergartener couldn’t have made a bigger mess. Yes, it was that bad.
What I was expecting to be no more than a three hour job, ended up being over five and still it’s not fully back to normal, so if I have time tomorrow, I’ll go back over and finish up on it. Thank goodness I’m still pretty handy at getting paint drips and runs off various surfaces without compromising what they’d originally looked like.
Just as I was getting ready to leave, I received a call from a client saying she’d be stopping by my office in about a half hour, which gave me enough time to get cleaned up and changed back into my street clothes, so by the time half-past two rolled around, she showed up at my door.
Once we had all the papers signed, we ended up having a really good chat about ending toxic relationships and nurturing those worth keeping. Somehow while in conversation, we ended up on the subject of schools we attended, and to my shock, I discovered she was in the same school, and same grade as one of my ‘old ones’, along with knowing several of the other ‘oldies’, which triggered a much longer conversation to the point where a good hour had passed since she arrived at office. Knowing she had other appointments, I apologized for being such a jabber box, which she quickly acknowledged as not being true because she was sharing just about as much information. I’m still in a bit of shock over her knowing those people out of my past. It’s too bad she wasn’t in my class because we would’ve been quite the formidable pair.
While at my bank this morning, my favorite teller asked about my Christmas, so I proceeded to tell her about my travels, and to my surprise, both Decorah and McGregor were also two of her favorite towns in eastern Iowa. I must insist if any of you have time for a leisurely day-trip, take in Decorah and McGregor, and while there, make a hike up to Effigy Mounds and then go stand at the look-out point which’ll give you one of the most spectacular views of the Mississippi River. There’s no question you’ll be very impressed, and to think we ‘white people’ are recent arrivals considering how many hundreds upon hundreds of years our native indians lived in that area. Oh, if those mounds and cliffs could only talk.
Both my listing at 1715 N. Delaware and 1012 N. Carolina are getting a great deal of attention these past several days, which will please me greatly if both of them go under contract before the end of this year. Wouldn’t that be a great way to start out the new year?
Since I was in the mood to take in a movie last night, I decided to watch for the umpteenth time, ‘The Green Mile’ which hit our big screens over twenty years ago. For whatever reason, I usually end up shedding a few tears while watching it, and for me, that’s saying something. Even though it has a very sad ending, the movie itself is spiritually uplifting, so if you feel like you’re have a ‘down’ day, give it a watch. Yes, Tom Hanks definitely was a good choice for being the lead actor.
Even though I go to great lengths at creating Christmas gifts for those I consider special in my life, I rarely end up purchasing something for myself, but this year, I happened to fall ‘in like’ with a navy cashmere winter dress coat, and as much as kept telling myself it was too pricy for my taste, I ended up purchasing it anyway. I thought for sure it would be here before Christmas, but it didn’t arrive until today, and once I unpacked it and put it on, I was even more ‘in like’ with it. Having worn cashmere in the past, there’s nothing comparable to keeping a person feeling toasty-warm on even the coldest of days. Hopefully it’ll last me for a number of winters. My greatest fear after buying it, was it not fitting me properly, but once I had it on, you could’ve sworn it was custom made specifically for yours truly.
Having forgotten to buy something at Hy-Vee yesterday, I had to stop again after work, so I went and grabbed what I needed, and just as I was walking thru their meat department, I noticed they had an in-store special on whole turkeys which were marked down to half-price, so I purchased the last one they had.
I’ve purchased them in the past, and what I do, is cut them up into serving portions and then send them to my freezer for future use. If it’s properly dis-membered, there’s many future meals to be had. I personally like oven-barbecued turkey legs and wings, and the breast, I simply cut up into single serving slices which can be breaded and turned into stovetop tenderloins. Yes, that ‘Tom’ was a very good buy.
Tonight’s One-liner is: It is more of a disgrace to be robbed of what one has, than to fail in some new undertaking.
