Another semi-pleasant day arrived with our temps above freezing and no precipitation, but from what I’ve been hearing, our long weekend ahead is calling for rain, rain and more rain, and thank goodness it’s not going to be snow, and only because there’ll be a great number of people traveling our roads during our holiday.
Once settled at office, I proceeded to deliver Christmas gifts to various individuals, so after today, all I’ll have left is putting together those gift packages for a group of well-deserving seniors which I’m hoping to have delivered before the end of the day tomorrow. From what I’ve been hearing, there’s been a great increase with people getting sick with either Covid or influenza, and definitely glad I’m not planning on being in any large groups in the near future. Yes, I’ll be playing for two of St. Paul Lutheran’s Services on Sunday, but I’ll be the only one up in the choir loft on both occasions.
My mid-morning closing took place without a hitch which made me exceptionally happy, and only because one of the owners had already moved out of State, and if there would’ve been any issues, the complications would’ve been greater. Yes, it was my last closing for this year, and happy it ended up being another ‘soft landing’.
With today being the winter solstice of 2023, we can now look forward to our warming sun’s seasonal march back north, and definitely glad for it because these short days and long nights become annoying after a while. I’ve never been a fan of going to work in the dark and returning home in the dark, but can you imagine what those people have to deal with who’re living much higher on the globe? Yes, they have very long daylight hours in the Summer, but similarly long hours of darkness in the winter.
My dear friend who enjoys feeding the birds and squirrels, got an unexpected Christmas gift from me which was a very large supply of bird seed which should have all her neighborhood birds singing for joy. I also gave her a large bag of salted peanuts which she could use as squirrel ‘candy’. It was happy to find her looking good and in fine spirits.
I also delivered several cards with a little gift to two people who’re always appreciative for whatever I give them. When I called to tell them I was on my way over, they cautioned me not to go inside because they’re both coming down with something, and glad I was told me because it’s better to be safe than sorry, so I just handed over what I had thru an open door and wished them a speedy recovery. For whatever reason, there seems to have been more obituaries posted these recent days than normal, so I hope it’s not going to be a repeat of what was happening during the height of our pandemic.
There are several showings scheduled for tomorrow on my listing at 1715 N. Delaware, and you can bet I’m now hoping one of them will produce an offer. Considering how few homes there are on the market in that price range, you’d think someone would’ve snapped it up by now, but of course that rickety house next door has been of no help.
While on the phone with a ‘reli’, I had to bring her up to speed on what’s been happening on my side of the fence. The bulk of our conversation centered around the by-product and on-going aftermath created by a nefarious ‘creature’ who set it all into motion, and only because she’s filled to the brim with jealousy and hate. I did make the assurance that there will more sooner than later, be a comeuppance for not only the ringleader, but also those who helped to put it in motion. Getting an “Amen to that.”, was a much-needed reassurance. Yes, I was happy having placed the call.
After getting my ‘fill-up’ on the news today, I had to chuckle to myself when reading where many of the wives of those Russian soldiers who were killed in Putin’s war with Ukraine, are now referring to him as ‘The Rat King’ which in my mind, is most appropriate because if you’d draw some whiskers on him and move his ears up higher and his head and point them forward, he’d definitely look like a rat. After reading that, I’ll likely see a shaved rat ever time I see a photo of him. Too funny!
I was shocked when reading where there were over a dozen people killed in and around Charles University which is located in the Historic District of Prague. At least they managed to kill him before he murdered any more innocent people. My gosh! The cold-blooded murders we’ve been seeing of late, really have me concerned, and especially those who’re going after the Jews around the world. I thought anti-semitism was pretty much dead, but unfortunately the increasing numbers of radical Muslims and alt-right neo-Nazis, got it all started-up again.
Before closing up shop for the day, I sat down at piano and started running thru four difficult pieces of music which I hadn’t played in some time. The extra challenge they place on me, helps to increase my fingering and sight-reading skills, and knowing how many pieces of music I’ll be playing during those two Services this Sunday, I figured it best I be extra-prepared.
I did place a call earlier to the person who’s ‘in the know’ at St. Paul, just to ask if they were planning on having their regular ‘coffee time’ afterwards, and glad to hear they were because I planned on bringing a plate of treats for them. Since it was well-received the last time, I figured I might as well do a repeat. They truly are a fine group of people.
