Oh how ever-glad I’ve been to have our December weather thus far, being as pleasant as it’s been, which will certainly make our winter seem all the shorter. I remember some years ago there being a Christmas Day where there was no snow on the ground and the temps were up in the high 40’s. Maybe we’ll have a repeat of that one.
Those contractors who’re working on constructing that ticky-tacky eleven unit apartment house over on the corner of 2nd NE and N. Federal, have been working like busy little bees with getting that framed-up and encapsulated before the coming cold arrives. I still can’t believe our city allowed them to build it, because as I said before, according to what I’ve been told, there’s supposed to be one and a half parking spaces to go with each newly-built unit, but according to what I’ve read, there’ll be ll units and only 6 off-street parking spots for those tenants. And another thing I questioned, was there being no mixed-use involved to where they’re all apartments.
Correct me if I’m wrong, it was my understanding that you couldn’t convert an existing 2 storied building in the Central Business district into all apartments because they’d only allow 50% of the building to be used as housing. Who changed the rules, or did someone manage to open a zoning ‘fence’ and let them do what they liked? I can assure you the few times I went to the ‘powers that be’ asking about doing something, I got a big fat “NO!”, so that was the end of that. I’ve told many and I meant it, likely the only reason I couldn’t possibly get something approved by our city, is because my last name is Chodur, which is why I continue to save my breath to cool the soup. Oh well, some day there will come a great change where accountability will reign and all people are treated the same.
It turned into a Friday where I was on the phone early this morning with my dear friend, just to share some recent happenings, along with getting a stern warning from her regarding some of the two-faced people who’ve been attempting to manipulate me. Unbeknownst to her, I’ve already insulated myself against anything like that happening, but I’m glad she’s looking out for my best interests.
I’ve been slowly rounding up some additional gifts I’ll be adding to my Christmas gift bags which I’ll be delivering to a group of delightful seniors, and since there’ve been some that’ve dropped off my list, and others added, I do try to keep them guessing as to what I’ll be delivering them, as every year there’s always something different, and I want to keep it that way. Just as my little remembrance, I’ve kept all the touching thank cards I’ve received from them over the years.
For about a month, I’ve been trying to get one of my baby Jade plants to grow, and finally one of them started, so I went and grabbed a charming mid-century glazed flower pot I had, filled it with dirt, and planted it. I then headed over to the office of a young lady who’d been at my office months ago, and while there, she mentioned how much she liked my Jade plants. When I walked into her office today I said, “When I make a promise to someone, I always try to keep it, so here’s one of the babies I promised.” I could tell she was exceptionally happy to get it, along with saying how beautiful its pot was. Wicked me then said, “Well, it’s likely older than you and me put together.”, which was more closer to the truth. Back in the old days, people had far more house plants than they do now, and their ‘parlor’ plants had to be in more showy pots. Keep in mind, people stayed home a heck of a lot more than they do now, and especially on Sundays.
As of today, I’ve started on my long journey with getting all my required continuing education done before the end of next year, which was my having registered for two separate online classes which will definitely make a dent in the hours I’m needing. Some months ago, I made up my mind that I’ll not be taking any ‘in person’ classes, and only because I almost always end up getting stuck having to be seated either next to, or very near colleagues I’d rather not be for hours on end. I’m sure you know exactly what I’m talking about. Don’t even get me started on some who’d be continually chewing their gum like goats. The woman I spoke with in Des Moines, was the most accommodating to where I was just about to thank her for being so helpful and kind which harkened back to times when it was commonplace.
I’m hoping the buyer I’ve been working with will call me tomorrow morning, just to take one more look at 1715 N. Delaware, and follow-up with an offer on it. When seeing the recent sold postings of lipsticked pigs, that home is long-overdue being sold. My gosh, I just noticed one I was familiar with back when I was young, and all I can say is, that home and the surrounding property, has been used and abused for decades on end. If only those people who purchased it knew what’s under all those superficials.
I happened to read a short article today which talked about Kevin McCarthy’s speech in front of a number of university students, and one of his lines which brought a roar of laughter, was the following, “When you look at the Democrats, they actually look like America, but when I look at my party, we look like the most restrictive country club in America.” Keep in mind that speech took place about three weeks before he was targeted for an ‘ousting’ by Matt Gaetz, who reminds me of an ever-barking and frothing-at-the-mouth junkyard dog.
Having crossed a very many paths with those ‘elitist’ country club goers from the time I was young, to this day I’ve never even attempted to learn how to play golf, and only because I definitely don’t wanna consider myself having fallen into their frames of mind. Let me tell you, there were those who really thought they were something special.
Tonight’s One-liner is: Golf is a good walk spoiled.
