Well, we’re now fully immersed in the heatwave, and I’m sure most of you are disliking it as much or more than I am. Of course when the heat goes up, the flies and gnats are more active, and wouldn’t you know, another one of those wicked gnats flew right into the same eye which I’m still not completely over that first one’s effects. Thank goodness I managed to run to a mirror, just so I could get it out before it was worked down into my tear duct, and in spite of my having removed it, my eye was burning for a good two hours until it finally stopped, so those devils must excrete something that’s toxic. I’m still in shock I got hit with another one in the same eye.
My morning showing didn’t go as well as expected, and mostly because that home’s online photos weren’t showing the rest of the story, along with it being smaller than it appeared to be online. Unfortunately, a past owner really cobbled-up its floor plan by changing doorways and creating openings. I have absolutely no clue why they did that because as chance would have it, that home’s original floor plan is very similar to what my mother lived in, which had good flow, but not today’s. Seeing it, was just a reminder of how some people make structural changes before they stop and envision. Oh well, at least we all had a good look and a few pleasant chats.
After my showing, I had to stop at a vacant home and sweep up a great many acorns off its front sidewalk, and since I’m such fanatic about planting native trees, I took them back to office, and during my lunch hour, I removed all the tops from those which were still attached, and by the time I was finished, I’d say at a minimum, there’s likely a good 250 Burr Oak seeds which I’ll now have to find a spot where I can plant them this Fall. I actually did the very same thing about fifteen years ago, but unfortunately I didn’t transplant them, so there are now a good number of them growing together which are likely approaching 15′ – 18′ tall. I thought for sure the dominant ones would choke-out the smaller ones, but that hasn’t happened yet. I’m about ready to name it Burr Oak Wall. Believe it or not, some of them are now producing acorns. How crazy is that?
Most of my afternoon was spent with working on closing files and research, and since I had all my errands run this morning, I didn’t have to leave the office all afternoon which was a blessing in disguise. I’m definitely doing everything I can to keep my acreage sale together, and now that the loan process is moving forward, I’m getting more documents sent to me that require the sellers’ signatures, which I scanned and emailed out to them this afternoon.
One of my clients stopped by for a short visit this afternoon, and for some reason he mentioned how much he enjoys this time of year because it’s when our local sweet corn is available. I couldn’t help admitting how much I’d grown tired of corn on the cob during my younger years, so in these times, a little goes a long way. Of course I do like home-grown and frozen corn in various stir-fries, goulashes, and casseroles, but not on the cob. There were summers when just about every evening we’d have corn on the cob, and during the wintertime we’d have hot corn as a side vegetable. Yes, when a person’s had their fill of something, there’s usually no going back.
While on the phone today with my dear friend, I couldn’t help sharing my anger over these loud-mouthed alt-right conservative politicians who’re now wanting to shut down all of our State and National over-sight agencies which have been in place for generations, and if they manage to shut them down, we all might as well move to another country, because that’ll open the door for major corruption. I also went on to say that back when I worked in the banking industry, we had State and National bank examiners who’d arrive un-announced, which definitely kept most bankers on the straight and narrow, and when I got into real estate, I discovered we had State laws governing the way in which we deal with the general public, along with having our trust accounts audited on a regular basis. Without a doubt, if those laws weren’t in place, there’d be a ‘yell-of-a-lot’ more corruption going on. I’m still disgusted over Rob Sand having his auditing powers diminished by our illustrious Governor and Legislature which is now populated with her lap-dog cronies. It’s looking more like a political machine similar to the one Chicago had during the roaring twenties and beyond. I just now had a funny thought, and that being, we can now refer to our current State government as ‘The Political Mob’.
On the real estate side of things, I’m still in desperate need of a mid-sized two bedroom home with a single attached garage which would have room to install a washer/dryer on the main floor. My buyer’s also not looking for anything needing repairs or major updates. The $125K – $170K range is where we’re now looking, so if you know anyone who’s getting ready to sell, please have them give me a call.
Since I haven’t spoken about Ukraine for some time, I figured it best to let you know I’m still following their offensive, along with continuing to pray for Russia’s defeat. Whether we want to admit it or not, if Putin wins, he’ll feel empowered to start more wars, which is why the European Union, the United States and all of our other allies, must supply Ukraine with all the munitions and technology they need to win that war. We must also continue to support long-held democratic principles, and only because there’s been a noticeable rise in the numbers of far-right ideologies, which in my mind, is nothing less than neo-Nazi thinking. We must all remain diligent in these politically fractured times, and only because we’re getting bombarded with their media garbage from all directions. I’m already very sick and tired of the many political text messages hitting my cellphone on a daily basis.
