If We’re Truly Concerned Citizens

Another early to office again, and only because I needed to get started on re-arranging the back of my office, just so I can have clients and customers start coming in my back door instead of the front, and no matter what they’re saying, I’m afraid my block is going to be closed-down for weeks on end, and only because there’s been absolutely no clean-up taking place at The Kirk Apartments. I was in a bit of shock when seeing two firefighters walking around and randomly breaking main floor and basement windows over there with a long stick. I have absolutely no idea what that was all about. Someone did mention today that there was another fire that broke out last night in that rubble, but I didn’t see anything on the news about it.

Since we now officially have it back on the market, I do want to put a plug in for 322 – 22nd St. SE which is a spotlessly clean 2 bedroom home with the most charming enclosed front porch which offers a panoramic view of Georgia Hanford Park which encompasses around sixty acres, along with well over one mile of walking trails which are in use year-round.

All the mechanical upgrades in the home are recent, along with some updated windows, recent painting, along with some improvements to the garage and the attached covered patio. The basement ceiling is tall enough to where a person could create a cozy rec room. It definitely has good bones, along with being located in our ever-popular southeast-side of our City. It’s aggressively priced at $65,000, and well worth it. I’m sure I’ll be questioned as to why the sale fell thru, so just for your information, it was only because at nearly the last day before closing, an out-of-State buyer decided he didn’t want to move here. That’s the long and short of it, so please put the word out because you just don’t find such homes so modestly priced.

I changed my clothes around mid-morning and headed out to do some roof inspections. After looking at all three of them, I was happy to find there weren’t any embers from that fire having melted holes in their coverings. While I was up above, I took some additional photos to share of the devastation, so if you want to see them, just click on the main photo, and a small slide-show will start. One of the photos is of some workers repairing damage to Praise Church’s roof, which is located just across the street from the Kirk Apartments. Yes, the strong northerly wind that was blowing during the fire, sure made a mess of those building down-wind from it.

After reading that article about our State Auditor’s office on KIMT News this morning, I was internally seething, and only because there’s no doubt, our State is slowly turning into a dictatorship. Knowing how ‘clean’ audits work, there’s no doubt in my mind, those restrictions our Governor is placing on his office, is going to open the floodgates for mis-management and corruption. If you have time, look up that article and give it a good read. Just for your information, our State Auditor’s main goal, is to protect the interests of the tax-paying citizens of Iowa, and just as a reminder, corruption is the most easily concealed when it’s happening from within. Just think about how many times you’ve read about employees embezzling from their employers, so when you have government entities which will now be more immune to our State Auditor’s authority, you can bet there’s gonna be all the more shady deals taking place. Just thinking about it, makes me want to go out and spit three times. If we’re truly concerned citizens, then we need to make sure our general public is fully up to speed with what’s taking place in our Local and State governments, and start voting with our consciences. Like I said last night, maintaining one’s principles, always comes at a cost.

I dare say, nearly my entire day at office, was spent scrubbing my office floors, re-arranging furniture, sending useless items to the dumpster, along with cleaning the tops of flat surfaces. As I suspected, the short time that black smoke was migrating into my office, there was some residue left behind. I’ll forevermore be grateful that wind changed directions and kept that fire from spreading across the street which would’ve likely taken out my entire block. I’ll have to round up an extra rug to place at my back door, and only because dirt is more easily tracked in from my rear parking lot. Even after four days, that Kirk Apartment fire still doesn’t seem real to me.

After getting a good look at our recent listings and sales, it appears we’ll be heading into another summer filled with impetuous buying, and this time around, is because our inventories have bottle-necked to where waiting buyers are simply jumping on whatever’s available, just so they can say they finally got something nailed-down. When visiting with a retired Realtor yesterday, she continued to insist we’re heading for another financial melt-down similar to the Savings and Loan Crisis, and the 2008 Financial Crisis. My only comment was, “It looks like the general public is never going to learn.” Yes, history repeats itself in all facets of our lives.

Speaking of history repeating itself, I think about the generational mistakes people have made, which even includes my own family, but for whatever reason, most of those who’re traveling down similar paths, refuse to draw comparisons, or step back far enough and look at the whole generational picture. While driving back from last Saturday’s family get together, those generational similarities, once again became clear.

While speaking with a colleague today, I couldn’t help reminding him that humans and animals are more closely related than most want to admit, which then prompted me to make a few comparisons of naughty people we both know, with how certain dogs and cats that’ve been abused or neglected when young, are never quite normal their entire lives, and oft-times it bleeds generationally forward, compliments of morphic resonance.  Yes, we can point fingers at those who’ve gone before us, but the real blame rests on ourselves for not recognizing our crippling psychological issues, and working thru them.

Tonight’s One-liner is: In these times, untroubled days never seem to dawn.
