Whomever Dreamed Up The Idea

It was another up and out early this morning, and only because there was left-over desk work for me to get completed before eight o’clock arrived. Considering how cold it was before dawn, I resigned myself to the fact that it was gonna be another cold and gray day in North Iowa. I smiled when remembering my comment on the first of March how pleasant it was, and then sharing that old saying regarding the “March in like a lamb and out like a lion and visa-versa.” Well, if we get the predicted rain late tomorrow, then March will be going out like a lion.

As chance would have it, I did manage to get that home sold which I had an offer on yesterday, so I’m hoping the trend will continue on through out the remainder of 2023, and only because I had a very slow start this year, which was most likely partially due to what some vile persons had intentionally done to me towards the end of 2022. As I’ve told several within my inner circle, “I’ll be the happiest if I never see or hear from them again.”, along with being terribly grateful I was given succor by those whom I hold near and dear. When speaking about such happenings, I continue to insist that there are those who hold wealth up as their only God, to where I swear they must think they’re going to live to be a 107, and then carry what’s left with them to their graves. All the more of late, I work as steering clear of such mindsets for fear they’ll rub off on me. Icky-poo!

Once I had my sale file in order, and tomorrow’s two closing files fully prepared, I started working on my end-of-the-month bill paying and accounting, just so I wouldn’t be saddled with an even larger pile once the 1st arrived. I still can’t believe how quickly the month of March has flown by.

As I was driving back to office, I couldn’t help noticing a very large and tall younger man, casually walking a sidewalk in our Downtown, with his jeans dropped at least three inches below his bottom’s crack, and no underpants on to keep people from seeing such a sight. As I drove past him, I dared not look at him in my rearview mirror, for fear I’d see something even worse. I’m afraid to say we have some very interesting cats wandering around in our City’s center. If it’s not the bicycling back-packers, it’s the drop-crotchers, along a good mix of dumpster-divers. Some days if you watch close enough, you’ll end up seeing things you later wish you didn’t.

One of my clients stopped by to have me look at a handful of documents regarding some vacant lots their family inherited in another State, and since they’re not interested in keeping them, he asked for some direction as to what their first steps would be in getting them sold. Once I got myself familiarized with where they were, and likely their value, I told him I’d do some online research today, and if I’d find something helpful, I’d forward it on to him. Well, about an hour after he left, I found a paralegal’s website which was informative enough to where I copied and pasted its web address in an email to him, so hopefully he’ll get the answers he needs from that company.

I wasn’t the happiest yesterday when finding an HVAC person not even having the courtesy to call and cancel an appointment we made for him to do a furnace inspection, which left the occupant waiting for a no-show. Never again will I recommend that company to anyone, and only because they assured me they’d be there on the agreed upon time and day. How do such companies manage to stay in business?

While in a store today, and gentleman whom I’ve known for a very long time, pulled me aside to ask my opinion regarding what’s been happening with all our main-line churches which are struggling to hang onto their members. Of course I had to offer up more than my two cents worth by sharing my thoughts about these YouTube feeds they’re posting of their Services, which in my mind, is causing more harm than good because seeing something on a screen, is far less of an experience than if you were there in person. One example I made, was how those people who attend live concerts, come back with rave reviews, in comparison to those who’ve watched the same thing on a video. Makes sense doesn’t it?

What I just happened to notice this past weekend while watching a YouTube Service, was that church having installed video cameras in both the front and high up in the rear of its structure, so when the camera that was mounted in the sanctuary was activated, you could see all the bodies and faces of those in the nave, and let me tell you, if I were one of the handful of those people who later watched it, I’d never darken their doors again. I fully understand the videoing of the minsters and attendants, but not their members, and especially when they’re taking communion. Whomever dreamed up the idea of showing everybody and everything, has no sense of privacy and propriety. I got quite the jaw-drop from the gentleman who pulled me aside for a chat, after sharing what I was viewing. Believe me, some of those people standing and seated in that church, were not outwardly prepared to be seen on camera. What really got me, was seeing one elderly gentlemen who was stopped-over during the sermon, and so much so, I could’ve sworn he’d fallen asleep.

Toward the end of our conversation, I made my final summation by saying, “They need to stop recording those videos and do an overhaul on their music departments, because I’ve stepped back far enough from it all, to understand that what they’re trying to accomplish in getting people back to church, is not working. I’m only now hoping one or two of the powers that be in those religious communities, read what I’ve written tonight, and do something about it. Of course I always have to remind myself that a prophet is never a prophet in his own land.

Tonight’s One-liner is: If you really want to get the goats of those who’re deeply jealous of you, work very hard, have a good life, and be the happiest you can be.
