This morning between rain showers, I listed the absolute most beautiful condominium in the Ambassador complex on S. Tennessee Place here in Mason City. After walking thru it this morning, I said to myself, “This is about as good as it gets.” Being a country boy at heart, I couldn’t believe I could actually see myself living there. The current owner has done a stellar job in the updates which include gorgeous new kitchen, major upgrades in the master and guest bath, all new tilt-in thermal windows, every appliance included, big laundry room off kitchen, oodles of closets and storage including a private storage room in the basement, soft and soothing color scheme thru-out, delightful views of the courtyard, attached 2 stall garage and much more. Very few people know the history of this particular building. It was one of the first four unit condominium buildings built in this complex by Gilbert Construction Company. I have been in all the other buildings and know for sure that when this building was built, they spared no expense in construction and design. This is the only building that has no “shared” walls with the other owners. This is why there is a double staircase in the front of the building. Also, the woodwork in this unit is top of the line. That’s because my mother’s cousin who was in upper management at Mason City Millwork back when it was the hub of providing custom doors, windows and woodwork. He and his wife were one of the first buyers likely before this unit was built. The doors and woodwork are real wood and of high-end quality. I didn’t personally know my mother’s cousin very well but I could see that he demanded quality in design and construction. I guess this is perhaps why sometimes I feel the apple doesn’t fall very far from it’s family tree because I know I get far too demanding at times in my expectations of quality work. But, isn’t that better in the whole scheme of things?
