I was expecting it to be warmer than it ended up being today, but I guess we can’t complain because in not so many days, we’ll be seeing predicted highs in the forties, and if these major temperature swings continue, there’ll likely be more people getting sick from it because as some of the old ones would say, “All things alive and dead, are negatively affect by radical temperature swings.” When I mentioned something to someone whom I thought was in the know, about the frost likely going deeper in the ground because we don’t have our normal insulating snow cover, she then said, “Well these coming warm days will help to keep it from going deeper.” Of course I had to then say, “I’m sorry to burst your bubble because when we suddenly have warms day after an extreme cold spell, the warmth ends up driving the frost even deeper.” Her only comment was, “Oh, you always have to come up with something negative.” Mercy me! How can someone be considered negative when simply stating a fact?
Mentioning something about 113 N. Hawkeye last night, must’ve triggered the piquing of someone’s interest in it because we now have a showing scheduled for it tomorrow, so let’s hope and pray the buyer for it has finally arrived. There’s no question I could easily live in that home because of it’s grand front porch, generous room sizes and an abundant amount of recent updates.
The loan process seems to be moving along very quickly on this past weekend’s sale, because there was already an appraiser at the house today, along with my having all the sooner received title instructions from the buyers’ lender. I’m sure if that loan gets approved more quickly, the buyers will be wanting to close early which would be just fine by me.
With about an hour free, I went over to the other church I was invited to play at, just to get myself familiar with their grand pipe organ, and wouldn’t you know, I couldn’t find the on/off switch which just about had me fit to be tied, so I went downstairs and asked the secretary if she knew where it was, and of course she didn’t. Luckily she did manage to get in touch with one of the organists who told her where it was. Oh my gosh! When she came upstairs and told me where it was supposed to be, there were three or four small pieces of paper which were covering it up. How embarrassing!
While there, one of their regular organists showed up who seemed a little on edge, and likely because she must’ve thought I would be messing with that organ’s pre-sets which would’ve been done by the various keyboardists who play there regularly. I think I had her calmed down after telling her I never mess with pre-sets on an organ because I prefer to manually pull out the stops I would be using for a given Service. I’m now hoping she wasn’t thinking I was being overly dismissive over it all because as we all know, many musicians tend to be on the temperamental side. Yes, even I get a little ‘issy’ at times when being challenged.
I had a long-overdue chat with a colleague today regarding the frustrations the both of us have to endure when dealing with those who just won’t take off their rose-colored glasses and start addressing chronic issues which we in turn have to deal with. I sometimes think there are those who’re living in the state of denial coupled with a good dose of stubbornness. And yes, there are many in their advanced years who can’t come to grips with the idea they’re growing older. Perhaps I understand it more fully since I’ve been more close to nature than most where our lives are as the shades of leaves turning from vibrant green to autumn hues before the killing frosts of Fall send them all to a forest’s floor. It’s sound a bit sad, but that’s simply the way it always ends up, and sometimes more sooner than later.
