It was a bit of a turn-about with our weather this morning when finding it downright chilly outdoors, and of course this was the day I went without donning my sport jacket. The skies were graying to the point I thought we may get some rain, but that didn’t happen. Just these last several days, I could definitely see how those fires in Canada were causing our skies to appear less blue. I’m sure people with allergies are not enjoying our great outdoors right now.
Once I had myself settled-in at office, I placed a call to my dear friend whom I’d not spoken with in a good week. The first words out of her mouth were, “I really liked the photos of the Kirk you posted last night.” Well, tonight’s photo is one I took today, and then converted to a black and white which is of a creepy basement doorway over at the Kirk, which now reminds of a war zone in the Middle East. Unfortunately, I had to cut our conversation short due to a call coming in from a customer, so I’ll have to catch up with her again.
I had to take a quick trip out of town around mid-morning, just to pick up some materials I was needing, which offered me another good look at our newly greened-up countryside. Most of those fields of corn have already sprouted, and I believe I even spotted a field of soybeans coming up. Let’s hope we get some million dollars rains in the near future. I read a prediction from a grain futures pundit who was saying there’ll be record-breaking crops, but unfortunately the prices will be lower than they’ve been.
When I returned to office, I prepared myself for a late afternoon showing, and then continued on with my research of a particular property I may be getting listed in the near future. I’ve got enough comparable sales pulled, but I just have to get a good look at the home’s condition before I can make my judgement call on pricing.
When seeing those demolition workers in a huddle across the street, I stepped out and walked over for a little chat. My first words were, “I can’t believe how all of you’ve been tirelessly working for days.” Of course I couldn’t help mentioning how less ambitious so very many are in our City, to the point where they don’t even want to keep their lawns mowed.
I posed the question to all of them, “What’s the worst demolition you’ve been associated with while working for your company?” Several of them came right out and said the Kirk Apartment has been the worst, and mostly due to how unstable the structure had become after the fire. I couldn’t have agreed with them more, and especially seeing how quickly large sections would come crashing down after they started digging in those areas. Thank goodness that smell is finally dissipating.
They were given instructions to get all the rubble and sand off the streets, and then fence-off the area, just so our Band Festival visitors would have easier access to our downtown. I couldn’t help being filterless when saying, “Over these many years, that Band Festival has grown less and less attractive, to where it’s more about those silly floats some of our businesses have created, just to be out in the public eye.” Having lived here nearly my entire life, I’d say the Band Festivals of today, are absolutely nothing like the real marching band shows that were put on back when I was young. Of course there are many fingers of blame that can be pointed in various directions, which is why I’ve decided to be a gentleman and not even go there.
What really grinds on me, is seeing that tacky carnival in the parking lot next to City Hall. I swear all of those rides appear as if they were cast-offs from a long-extinct traveling carnival. You couldn’t get me to ride one of them if you paid me big bucks. That whole roll-our is a very large eye-sore. Don’t these people who organize the Band Festival, realize that most young families take their children to Adventureland during the summer months?
I’ve been closely watching the war news coming out of Ukraine these recent days, and only because I have a ‘feeling’, there’s soon to be a large kicking back at the Russians, and when recently reading about the Belgorod region of Russia coming under attack by anti-Putin Russian fighters, it’s telling me they’re creating even more distractions away from the front lines. We’ll see what’s gonna happen when they all come out swinging.
One of the commentators mentioned how absolutely insane Putin was to declare war on Ukraine, just because he thought he’d be able to draw the entire country back into his fold. I fully agree that nearly every living Ukrainian will possess a deep hatred for Putin and his cronies for the rest of their lives. I still can’t believe he continues to maintain that it’s only a ‘special military operation’ which was sent there to rid their government of Nazis. Unfortunately, nearly all the older Russians who believe everything they read and see on their State-run news outlets, have allowed themselves to be so propagandized, that no matter what happens, they’ll believe Putin’s intentions were justified. How pathetic is that?
A dear friend stopped by my office unannounced, and under her arm, was a package containing a framed picture, and when I opened it, I was nearly brought to tears. My only comment about it all is, “There are those among us whom we believe don’t have any clue as to what colors, styles and themes we prefer, but today’s gift was something that proved such thoughts to be far from the truth.” What a terribly thoughtful gift I will cherish for years to come!
Tonight’s One-liner is: Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.
