Waking up to rain again wasn’t the most enjoyable, but at least it did give us a little reprieve as the day wore on, but by the looks of it, we’re not completely thru these bands of rain clouds, so just prepare yourselves for another rainy day tomorrow. Without a doubt, just about everything green was glowing from the amount of rain we received.
The dandelions are certainly appearing to be quite prolific while driving around our City, and it looks like weed-free lawns are fast becoming a thing of the past, and mostly because many of our young homeowners, just don’t consider lawn care anywhere near being high on their priority lists.
First thing this morning, I scanned and emailed to a well-known, a copy of two envelopes, along with a copy of an email which was sent to me back in 2018. I did get a call-back later today which prompted even more speculation as to the persons whom we believed were responsible for it. In the end, we both agreed on who the prime suspects are.
The first call I had to make this morning, was to a buyer I’ve started working with, and only to alert him that the two homes he wanted to look at this afternoon, were both sold late yesterday, so the only one left in his price range, is one I showed several months ago. We set a time for early afternoon tomorrow, but knowing how particular he is, I’m sure it’s going to be a ‘fly-over’ once he’s had a good look at it. Yes, we’re in a time where there are really slim pickings in the under $100K range, and no end to it in sight.
These of course are the times when a great deal of ‘pirating’ takes place among Realtors, and unfortunately as their sales drop, their scruples fall with them. Just this year I had a buyer and seller ‘pirated’ by another nameless Realtor, but as I’ve always believed, karma will be settling the score. I would’ve taken it more lightly if it were a truly struggling agent, but having an idea of the amount of coin that agent has squirreled away, those two trophies were nothing but a half a drop in their bucket. Crazy isn’t it? Do you think I should some day make mention that there’s no living forever?
Speaking of squirrels, there’ve been several times this past week where I discovered a ratty-looking squirrel trying to get into the front of my office, which was the first time in all these years where I’ve found one that determined, which got me thinking. Well, over these recent years, the squirrel population in the the area of my office, has grown markedly to where several years ago I started live-trapping them. Yes, they were getting that bad.
After putting on my thinking cap, I distinctly remember seeing those squirrels running across The Manor parking lot and then milling around the west side of the Kirk Apartments. More than once I had a passing thought they had their nesting sites in that apartment building. Keep in mind, once a squirrel gets inside, it’s a free-for-all with trying to get rid of it. With that said, I was told that fire started in a main-floor bathroom located in the northwest corner of that building, which is where I used to see those squirrels scurrying around.
Knowing how old that building is, and the number of nooks and crannies behind those interior walls, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if that fire was started inside a wall due to a squirrel chewing on old wires that were live. Believe it or not, more than once I personally saw the damage squirrels had done to attic wiring which could’ve created a house fire if the conditions were right. I’m not saying it was a squirrel-induced fire, but I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if it ended up being a fact, and mostly because I now have a squirrel or two really wanting to get in my office, and thank goodness they can’t crawl up that smooth metal which is on the second floor at the front and back of my building. Raccoons and squirrels are the most problematic creatures when it comes to wildlife trying to get entry to a home or building. I was told several days ago by a tree expert, the most invasive are the jack squirrels which work double-time in trying to get in attics.
With an abundance of free time, I changed my clothes and did a little work on my project, and then after it stopped raining, I got in my car and did a little driving around in the countryside. My goodness! The field corn is already starting to push thru the soil in those many fields. Yes, the farmers are really ahead of themselves this season.
When I got back to office, I sat down and banged away at my piano, just to continue on with the improving of my sight-reading. I have two very thick hymn books, so I started from the beginning of the first one, and by the time I forced myself to call it quits, I was over half-way thru it. We’ll see how my fingers feel tomorrow morning because I was at it for well over two hours.
After arriving home, I went out and checked on the various trees I planted last Fall, and wouldn’t you know, a good ninety-percent of them made it thru the winter, so if they can make it thru our growing season, along with one more winter, they’ll be well on their way to becoming beautiful hardwood trees for years to come. Most of the yellow Magnolias I planted, also made it, so give them a few years, and they’ll be flowering. I dare say, I’ve fallen the most for the yellows.
The purple asparagus I planted last year, also made it thru the winter, and for whatever reason, that row looks a good three years older than they are. Keep in mind, I planted them last year, and according to the experts, one must wait until the third growing season before it can be harvested. Well, the size of some of those spears coming up, already look like ‘grandaddies’. You’d have to see them to believe it. I did harvest a good number from an old plant which’ll be enough for three or four meals.
