A Success Story Continued

I was walking back from another building downtown with business clients this morning when just before I arrived at my building, I ran into Tony Halsted who is the Chief Operations Officer at Hoover’s Hatchery. I introduced him to my clients and told them about his business. To my surprise, I discovered that he is expanding Hoover’s Hatchery’s market. I was delighted to hear that he has added more rare breeds of chickens to their inventory and what was the most exciting is that he has started with out-sourcing the growing of all natural chickens to area poultry farmers. He said they have about 5,000 chickens that are being raised by about 15 producers. When the chickens are ready for market, they get shipped to a North Iowa slaughtering facility and sold to specialty markets. This is exciting news of yet another entrepreneur expanding and growing his business. Most people are not that familiar with Hoover’s Hatchery unless they raised poultry on a farm or acreage. Hoover’s Hatchery has been in business for a very long time and it is family owned. On such a cold, dreary and wet day, I was truly lifted to hear of yet another success story. I commend Tony Halsted and all the other local business people in North Iowa that have a vision for diversity and growth in our competitive corporate world. Niche markets are hard to find but they are there—we only have to discover them. I hope I can share yet another success story with you all soon.
